| TJ35 + Apple Hotsync troubles… Because Apple OS 10.2.8 does not support TJ35-compatibility I purchased the download version of “Missing Sync 3.0” & got the upgrade to 3.0.9. I installed all the latest soft: Palm Desktop 4.1 + Hotsync Manager 3.1, iSync 1.4 + iSync Palm Conduit 1.2, iCal 1.5.2.
But… Hotsync simply doesn’t work. On my TJ35 I get always the same “Hotsync problem”-message that says:
“The connection between your handheld computer and the desktop could not be established. Please check your setup and try again.” I checked the Connection Setup but everything seems fine over there.
What am I doing wrong?
It can’t be the USB connection cable because the “Data import” function started from the TJ35 works! So I can drop my favorite photos & MP3’s on the Memory Stick that is recognized as Sony Mass Storage Device.
It seems that my Mac simply doesn’t recognize the TJ35 as handheld, only as Memory Stick Adapter… great!
I was wondering if it could be a problem with the Missing Sync software. Can anyone tell me where you can verify if the installed soft really IS 3.0.9? During upgrade-installation I only got a Japanese (!!!) readme.file and there was only mentioned a version 3.0, except from the install filename, nowhere signs of a 3.0.9 upgrade (as far as I can read Japanese characters).
Then there is that weird situation that 2 versions of the Missing Sync 3.0.9 upgrade are circulating on the web… One of 4,1 Mb, the other 12,5 Mb… I tried them both with same result: no syncing for me…
Is there anyone else out there who got the same problem, or some wiseguy that can help me out?
The most frustrated TJ35-user on earth. |

| Could this be a Mac OS X 10.2 vs Mac OS X 10.3 issue? I have 10.3.3 and a Clie TJ35 working without any issues;
Missing Sync 3.0.9
Mac OS X 10.3.3
iSync 1.4
The only problem I had was getting Apple Mail and mail.prc (Palm OS 4) to play nice.

| My problem solved at least Hey, I know where your coming from, I had your exact same problem that just happened last night. My TJ25 was hotsyncing fine for several weeks, until last night when I did a fast user switch, then zap, no more hotsyncing. I tried everything with no luck, getting the "connection failed" error.
Then today, I removed all traces of Palm Desktop manually (the un-install doesn't clear it all). Remember especially to remove /Library/CFMSupport/HotSync Libraries, and /Library/Application Support/Hotsync.
Then I rebooted, re-installed Palm Desktop 4.1, then Missing Sync 3.09 (12.6mb version). And voila, started working.
iSync for a PDA use is only useful for importing from iCal and Address Book, nothing else. I simply use the built in stuff from Palm Desktop to do that. As I've read, having Hotsync and iSync together can cause all sorts of problems.
Some other things to consider:
- Disable Fast User Switching
- Disable Appletalk
- Turn off Voice Memo and Photo conduits if your PDA doesn't support it
- Try lowering your PDA connection speed to 28K
- Skip iSync
- Try creating a brand new Profile
PS: In case this happens to you in future: Always, ALWAYS backup to your memory stick. |

| You shouldn't have to disable Appletalk. I have that enabled all the time and my TJ-35 has had no problems. Some people need it activated for their LAN settings etc.

When you plug your PDA into the USB port do you see a Sony Clie Device in the "System Profiler" under USB?
Starting to walk with baby steps.

| Starbuck,
Let me ask the stupid question: why is Sony so Mac blind?
Get your act together Sony!
Work with these thrid party vendors like Missing Synch to establish a nice and simple API to get the Mac synching (or better yet iSync) to work on EVERY MODEL!
Invest in that compnay and work with them! Your Clie customers are the same as the high-end smarty pants Mac customers. They crave stylish and sophisticaed products-- get it straight and do the right thing by supporting Mac OSX out of the box!!...
This is ridiculous and embarassing situation for Sony-- and a royal pain for their users. |
