| Really STRANGE TH55 Occurence... Greetings!
I had a very wierd thing happen with my TH55 today. I grabbed my TH55 off my NX80 charging cradle, and called up the Netfront app. to check out something on the net. The app took almost 8 seconds to load, with a white screen before it loaded. I thought... Hmmm.... why so slow?
I then punched up a few other apps, and they ALL behaved the same way. I was suddenly worried - why were all my apps taking so long to load? I called up my smallest, fastest loading app, and found the same delay. I then noticed that during the 8 seconds or so, my memory stick access light was flickering. Since the app I was pulling up did not even USE anything on the memory stick, I figured there might be some kind of background task going on that used memory stick access.
At this point, frustrated, I pulled my memory stick out of the machine, and tried launching apps. Suddenly, they all launched almost instantly. I then thought.... hmmm.... maybe I can isolate this problem by putting the memory stick back in, and start deleting apps that use memory stick files.
This is when the real surprise hit - immediately after putting the memory stick back in, I started launching apps and they were all back to normal!!! Man was I puzzled. Everything has been working perfectly since then, and I didn't delete ANYTHING off the memory stick.
Any ideas what might be going on here? I am completely perplexed.
Best wishes,
Bawko

| Wow, that's weird... Maybe you shut off the Clie while it was playing mp3s or something? I honestly have no idea. :O

| A few times, after charging, I have noticed that my MS light has been on even though no MS access seemed to be taking place. It doesn't go off even after taking the stick out. It only stops after a reset.
I haven't seen the delay but perhaps this is a related issue with charging and MSs. |

| I have had the same issue as tristan40, once. In my case it wasn't after charging. The MS light stayed on, not flickering, and only a soft reset would turn it off.

| No Problems here Mine has never done that. What kind of MS are you using?? SanDisk-Sony and is it Pro or magic gate or regular? What size MS is everybody using?
I have a 1 gig Sony in mine and never had this problem. If you are using any MS other than Sony that might be your problem. I read that the TH55 may not work with Sandisc's new MS pro??
I don't know how true this is but post more info if you could.

| mrSONYman,
I am currently using a 256MB Memory Stick Pro - Sony brand.
I'm planning on buying one of the 2GB Sandisk memory sticks when they are available - but I haven't found anyone with stock on one yet. Where did you hear that the TH55 won't work with the new Sandisk memory sticks? I am very interested, for obvious reasons.
Best wishes,
Bawko

| I have a SanDisk 256 mb MS Pro in my TH55 and everything seems fine. I can't see how the SanDisk cannot work considering Sony and SanDisk's collaborative efforts with the memory stick.

| That is strange - I've never seen anything like that on any of my Clies. I would suspect an app that plays in the background and also access the MS, such as PocketTunes or AudioPlayer. |

| I'm a little releived to read about this. I believe I had this happened to me once. I was very confused and a tad bit worried. I'll pay more attention if it ever happens again.

| I can't remember where I read the article I read a ton of them on my lunch hour that I couldn't even tell you. I read a lot of the ones in Japanese though. I did remember that there where some problems with the San Disk MS cards working with the New TH55 Clie and they stated that the new devices where having a hard time reading the cards and this might have been due to the new processor they put in the TH55. Sony cards have no affect on the units they said but SanDisk was looking into it.
Sorry I just though this might help the problem but it appears to be random from what I have been reading. The SONY MS cards are a few more buck but better to know they make them just for these types of devices so there will be no compatibility issues.
I know that Sony and SanDisk worked together on this but sometimes yo will get a bad MS from the manufacturer they are not all perfect.

Are you saying that Sony and Sandisk cards are NOT made by the same manufacturer?
I have read on many, many postings that the Sony memory sticks are just re-branded sticks from the Sandisk factory. Is this not correct?
Best wishes,
Bawko

| Atomic Chicken,
From what I've read, you are right. SanDisk and Sony are in a joint venture concerning the memory sticks.
