Has anybody found it necessary [ or just done it] to defrag the MS?
I have a 128Lexar. I have moved lots of stuff on and off in seeing what I want to have on permanently and wondered if I would get a speed boost, not that there is any apprecable loss so far.
This issue has come up before. As the memory stick uses solid state memory instead of physical memory, defragging is not a good idea, and is unnecessary. Solid state has a limited # of read/write cycles, so defragging will use A LOT of read/write cycles without any benefit.
If you insist on 'defragging' your MS, formatting is the way to go, it simply makes all memory addresses on the card available for writing. Copy all files from the MS to your desktop, then format the card. Then, when you copy all files back to the MS, it will write them in 1 big chunk without any fragmentation.

On a somewhat related note: When formatting your 'stick' do so with the Clie's Memory Stick Utility rather than using your PC and a card reader. It was discovered earlier that in doing the format with your PC, certain Stick intensive apps (like video recorder) don't function properly.
