Problems with PInstall (Pilot Install) freeware

One of my favorite programs for a *long* time has been PInstall. It allows me install a single app without syncing the entire device. It merely requires me to drag the app to its icon & then press hotsync.

My problem is that with the TH55 the program doesn't appear to work. When I hit the sync button, nothing happens.

Is anyone else using this program &, if so, what is your experience. I'm using WindowsXP, BTW.

BTW, another great feature of this program is the ability to turn txt documents into readable format for the Palm merely by dragging it to the PInstall icon.

Same thing here. Occasionally, it even thinks it's working and shows progress and ticks off the time, but it's not really doing anything.

*Bump*

This is one application I really miss with the TH55 -- performing a full HotSync just to install into RAM is a pain. I've emailed the developer and I'll post the reply here, if there is one...

I agree -- pinstall is great, and it won't work on my TH-55 either. When pinstall starts up the Hot Sync icon in the system tray goes away.

It would be great if the developer could fix this somehow.

Yep, same problem with my Ux-50 - no action

Tred changing the option of USb to Com1 etc as suggested by the home website but still no joy.

I'm signing the same blues you all are. I REALLY miss Pinstall. I have tried it on two different operating systems to no avail. (XP at home and WIN 2000 at work.) I hope for the developer to address this soon. I hate syncing everything just to try out one program. However, the TH-55 still hotsyncs faster than my old T-615!

I emailed the programmer about it and he said that the current version doesn't support the TH55. If he gets enough feedback from other TH55 users though (hint, hint!) he will try to put that into the next release version. He has a program that will supposedly "hardwire" the program to use the USB port with ANY PDA, but it only works with Windows NT or XP... 98/ME won't run with it either.

So, he's aware of the problem, but he needs enough feedback from other TH55 users to make it worth his while to upgrade it again!

PInstall is a great program and i use it for a long time with my old T675c. With my TH55 it dont work.

But now i use the great Uninstall Manager and this works only, when i put the files via hotsync on my th55. So i dont need PInstall. A working Uninstall Manager is better. Consider that.

The hotsync with the th55 is verry fast. So its no great problem.

BTW, another great feature of this program is the ability to turn txt documents into readable format for the Palm merely by dragging it to the PInstall icon.
----
TH55 reminder: txt files can be imported, from within ClieOrg's memopad, for viewing/editing. You can then export it back out (to MS).

Alternative: GoSync
----
A program I've used for well over a couple of years now, and find it flawless. Living on the desktop, it provides a long narrow checklist, reflecting your PalmOS apps which have desktop counterparts, as well as the core apps and ClieOrg apps. You can save "profiles", i.e., "install" for just that purpose; "core only" to sync only the native apps--- in short, any combo you desire. Easy and intuitive to use: check whatever, right click, choose "save profile" and name it. Just as easy to delete profiles and create additional ones. It was $8 at PalmGear then, but $15 today. Just ran a search and found it for$8 at another spot.

PalmGear for trial: http://palmgear.com/index.cfm?fusea...F=&prodID=10835
Shareware Order for $8 purchase: https://www.regnow.com/softsell/nph...er&styleID=6038

Notes:
(1) When you initially install GoSync, it will see all pre-installed apps, and they will appear in the checklist. (No re-install hassles)

(2) If you install a new desktop Palm-related app after loading GoSync, you need to close GoSync, then re-open to see the new app's conduit/checkbox.
