| TH55 + Graffiti Replacement + NetFront + Text Form Entry = Ouch! Ideas?? Over the past few days, I've been able to consistently reproduce this, while wifi surfing with NetFront:
- set cursor in text box field, in a form, at any website
- NetFront throws a Fatal Reset.
- Only escape = hitting the reset hole.
The only thing I synced over initially were the 4 core DBs. Everything else was manually installed, one by one. I also use InWatch, so anything uninstalled is "really" uninstalled. So the system is fairly clean in that respect.
I had been using TealScript. So I uninstalled it, as it also causes grief in the fancy Clie Org apps when you try to handwrite something. Tried Graffiti Anywhere. Same result in NetFront (tho fine with the fancy apps since "disabled" there). Went into GA and "disabled" any and everything that looked even remotely related to NetFront. But, ultimately, same NetFront "reset" result. Gave up on both TS and GA, and started using the virtual graffiti area.
I did this a few minutes ago with a form at PalmDigitalMedia (log-in screen). No problem, so I figured I had cured it. I did notice that the particular form was open-- some text areas actually look like boxes, others seem to just have a long line. The PDM text area was of the "line" variety. Then, I came here to the CS Forums, and started entering text in one of the big forum-type message boxes. Just as I was finishing up, about 4 lines down, I realized I needed to edit to replace an "L" with an "i" (I hate G2!!) The second I moved the stylus/cursor to the area needing revision-- Blam!, another fatal reset.
There's no logic here. I was able to set the cursor in the subject field, and also to move it and set it in the message/body field, without hassles. Yet, the third movement jacked me. Other than this one problem, NetFront has been an absolute gem. It's not critical, but I'm scratching my head trying to figure it out. Anyone have any ideas? Meanwhile, I'll now leave my laptop to go back and scrutinize each of my utility apps to see if one of them could be the culprit. TIA. |

| Fixed it, courtesy of another post here related to PalmReaderPro. http://www.cliesource.com/forums/sh...&threadid=43634
That made me switch my troubleshooting focus to fonts issues.
Quick background: several months ago on a TG50, after installing Lubak's Fonts4NX, I ran into pagination woes with the free Palm Reader. PalmDigitalMedia pinpointed Lubak's fonts as the problem. I moved to PalmReaderPro and one of their special fonts packs, and the problem was cured.
When I saw today's PalmReaderPro/reset post, it reminded me that I now have Fonts4OS5 (v. 2.1) installed. Ultimately, I realized that to turn it off for NetFront, I had to open NetFront, then get to the Fonts4OS5 icon in the commandbar. Once F/5 was open from within NetFront, I set the font -- for NetFront purposes-- back to the system default.
I then went back out on the Net, did a few tests on a couple of forms--- no resets! As I don't wanna tempt fate, I've decided to keep Graffiti Anywhere disabled for NetFront purposes. As for TealScript, until it adds a "turn-off-per-app" feature, I'm forced to abandon it. |

| I have TealScript running with no problems whatsoever, even in NetFront with forms. But I don't have the write anywhere on the screen option turned on since that's too slow for me. Not sure if that particular bug is causing you problems. |

| KW,
I completely forgot about that trick; thanks for the reminder. Now I'll just hunt for the article I saw somewhere with the how-to. If memory serves, I think I just copy the 2 Graffiti libraries from my TG50 to the TH55 memory stick, copy to RAM, then reset. Oh joy, more fun.
(Re TealScript-- yeah, I've given up on it too. Funny how the free Graffiti Anywhere is miles ahead of TS as regards usage, but gees I miss the TS customized script!) |

| I noticed the instructions indicate the only way to return to G2 is to hard reset the device.
So, before I switch back, and believe me it is oh so tempting, is there any reason to stick with G2? Does it have any advantages over G1? |

| Up to the person I guess but for me G1 is much better... AND much more familiar. One pain is entering symbols with G2 is a PITA |

| The Hard Reset is the easiest way to remove G1.
There are other ways, but they are harder to do (One involved renaming the TYPE attribute, and one involved lowering the Version ID), and still required a Warm Reset afterwards to confirm the changes.
They're a bit more risky as there is a chance something weird will happen, so you still need to Backup
Personally, I don't see why anyone would choose G2 over G1. G2's only nifty addition AFAIK is the capitals-in-the-middle thing, but that can be a huge pain in the proverbial. In every other way, G1 is superior to G2 - For one thing, every character is a single stroke and all punctuation is 2 strokes. This makes it easier for the OS to figure out which char you want, which speeds up entry and reduces errors.
(I really hate G2 and think it's an awful hack-job. ) |
