| Color Accuracy on the TH Display After playing with my new TH for a day now, I've been comparing the color quality with ny previous NX. Here's what I've discovered, I would love to find out if it's just my TH or the entire line:
- Whites display almost perfectly on the TH. I always thought the NX was bright, but when side by side, the NX has a purplish tint to its white.
- The contrast on the TH is way too high. After viewing the hi-res+ graffiti area on an NX which distinctly shows it grey and dark grey, on the TH it's dark grey and almost black.
- When viewing the CNN web page, my computer's cinema displays shows the left hand nav as a bright blue (which we could assume is the true color). The NX shows it almost the same blue when held up against the display. The TH on the other hand, shows it as a really dark blue, not even close in a side by side comparison. Also, today's CNN main image had a photo of men in dark suits. On both the NX and computer display, you could make out details such as collars, wrinkles, etc. On the TH, it was just a dark patch.
So in conclusion, as much as the screen is brighter, there are still some flaws. Instead of just a brightness slider, I wish they would also have a contrast slider. There needs to be a better way to calibrate this screen because it's really there, just has too much contrast to it.
Anyway, other TH owners, please post your comments. I want to see if I should return this for another unit. (And I know to some, color accuracy isn't much a big deal, but it is to me, especially showing client's designs and images on the Clie, which is what I typically do). |

| It definitely has a much poorer contrast than the NX80. Of course, I haven't seen a PalmOS device with a screen as good as the NX, so I wasn't planning on it being an exact match. However, I'm surprised at how different it is. |

| I agree with you totally!
The movie I recorded with my previous nx73, even if the background eas dark, the image still seems fine, but when I watched it on my TH55, I can't even see the people standing in the dark. |

| This picture from pdafrance.com's review shows it quite well. On the left TH-55, on the right NX73V. I really hope this contrast issue can be fixed somehow. |

| Though looking at the pics I'd prefer the NX's screen, I must say that the TH's screen has better (neutral) colors, the bluish cast from NX's screen is gone. Well, this means that both screens aren't perfect, you either get too much contrast or bluish colors. Both are equally usable, so I'd say it's a matter of taste.

| If you look at that link (posted before in another thread of this forum) you will see 2 sample foto's:
-how they look on the th
-how they look on the nx
-how they look as original on the website
These pictures seem to confirm what has been told before in this thread. http://myweb.hinet.net/home1/iopiop/TH55.htm
please scroll down to about the 50 % of the webpage
I can live with that, the battery-consumption is that much better, as it's been reported or reviewed at clieandco.com. With my nx73v i could wlan surf about 1 - 1,5h before I had to plug in the ac-adapter (power-safe in the wlan-settings set to off).

| Thanks skccs, that's an in-depth review. Yeah, I don't think anyone's got it right. I know when I upgraded from my N760 to the NX I thought the screen was killer. Now with this upgrade, it also looks killer for the white. But there's always short comings. Can't wait for the Cobalt Clies, which I'm sure will look even better.
Then again, maybe screens just degrade over time. |

| Dear contemp, well there is a difference between the screen of the nx70v and the nx73v.
I think screens will become better-looking and less battery consuming at the same time ;-) But probably more expensive: http://www.palminfocenter.com/view_story.asp?ID=6519
The above link show's an article saying that sony might come out with a new pda-screen with oled-technologie this spring.
As for the th55 again i will be able to live with it I think: I had my brightness setting on my nx73v always on about 40 %. So brighness set to 100 % might be better or the same with an th55. Having less weight to carry around and consuming less battery is important for me too. Looking a movie on a clie is never the same as looking it in a theater, but ist's ok and pretty cool.
