May be a temporary quirk - try resetting. If it's a persistent problem, you should have no trouble returning your unit. |

| It does seem odd that folks are having issues with beaming; I've been beaming stuff back and forth from my old N760C without any issues. |

| I've also had no problems with beaming, but I've only tried it with my NX80. |

She was proably hinting that it wasn't for you so why not give it to her heheh. She knows she wants that sexy lil clie ^_^. |

Hiya there, I don't know what model you have, but my IR beam is along the top right hand side right where the stylus is and your right though, if it was along the bottom that would be the worst spot as my hand covers that. |

Yes, I did try resetting. The only Sony Clie I have is the T-415 so maybe I should try beaming from that (if it isn't dead yet). Anyone have success beaming from PalmOne units to the TH55? | |

| Some TH55 thougts and a question Ive had the TH55 now for about 36 hours, 30 of which have been spent playing (Hmm ... do I need to get a life?) I'm coming from an NR70 which, speedwise is like going from a pinto to jag (does that date me?) In any event I think the speed is blazing especially on Monopoly. Now my specific thoughts:
1. WiFi was a snap to start. I run off a cable modem and I think my speed is pretty darned good, I was amazed at the range. I was working from one end of the house to the other in the back yard. In essence, range was almost what I get from my laptop. On optimized frame viewing - was a little difficult to read the font size but otherwise works fantastic.
2. ClieMail works great and is pretty snappy.
3. Clie Organizer - haven't worked with it much yet but certainly seems very promising. Might even be giving up Datebook
4. Zlauncher works great - no problem - just have to reconfigure in 2 places - Preferences and Clie Organizer
5. Form factor - fabulous! However, I am not thrilled about the jog dial location - a little awkward but I guess it takes some getting used too.
6. Color - Again, coming from NR70, I am very impressed.
7. Battery - FABULOUS. Fully charged it's at 4.20v and never moved for about 30 minutes and even then, after another 30 minutes only dropped to 4.1 Very impressive
8. Lid is very nice. It will smear and get fingerprints but very unobtrusive in the up position. Also, great now to see my alarms rather then just a light and then have to open up the NR70.
Overall, I am very very impressed and love this new toy.
Now my question. The font is very light just like my old NR70 which I used Thin Font to fix which Iwon't work with OS5. Any suggestions - I know there is a fix out there - I just don't know what is is. Thanks in advance and hope you all enjoy the TH. One last thank-you to this forum which is how I found out CC had them in stock as of last Friday. |

1. Are stuck pixels so bad to me that I have to try to exchange the unit, or just return it and wait for my order from BB?

I decided to take the unit back for an exchange. Within 5 minutes I was out the door with a new TH-55 and it is now sitting for it's 5 hour charge cycle. I'm expecting I'll open it up around 5:30 and the screen will be perfect. I'm also expecting the Wi-Fi will work. Quote:
2. Is this really the upgrade for me or should I wait until the next clamshells come out.
3. Is what I'm getting over my NR70v worth the $350? Yes, the wi-fi is nice and I'd use it often to sync from bed or the couch, but that's one of those nice things to have. The speed will likely be a nice benefit too, but I'm not sure it's worth over $300.
|
After having beamed DateBk5, ShadowPlan, and HanDBase along with some data I have to say the speed is worth around $200 for me. I did a test where I brought up Shadow on my NR70v and on the new unit. I opened my largest list on the nr70 and then tapped open on the 55. Even with the delay of having to tap open the 55 opened quicker than the 70. The speed is nice. I also forgot that with DB5 I'll now be able to fit more on the screen with small fonts.
The screen is quite a bit better than the NR70v. I especially enjoy the fact that I can really dim this one! No more lighting the neighborhood while reading in bed.
What I really wanted the new unit for was wi-fi though. I've been craving wireless sync for 6 months now and I expect the new Clie to give it to me. I'd say that's worth another $100 bucks to me.
The last $50 is for the upgrade to OS5. I'd thought of waiting until OS6 but I think it's better to wait until all the bugs have been worked out before doing that. Quote:
More playing with it tomorrow...I wish I could say I was blown away, but I'm not. I expected a feeling like I had when I got my 70v and what I'm feeling is far from it. [/B]
|
Maybe I don't have to be blown away this time. After all my last "wow" experience with a PDA cost double what I plunked down for the TH-55. Provided the screen is perfect and I can get the wi-fi working well I'll be keeping it. |

| I personally think that the TH55 has answered many ppl's prayers by offering the VG in a T-form, albeit a bit late.
I personally am inpressed by the Clie Organiser, but i wud not buy a palm just for it. It's just like buying the TT3 or TE or even a PocketPC for the Today page! (as a side note, the today page of FAcer and of DateMan are wonderful, and cost considerably less that $400!)
Speed might be an issue, as wud be battery life and WiFi/BT connectivity.
I will wait for Cobalt... its no use buying a palm now for something that will be replaced so well "soon" - but that is my opinion, the opinion of someone who is doing well with a T-615, and has a limited budget, jsut bought a home, about to get married, and has a gf who would kill me if i bought a new pda instead of some new furniture!

| Just got back from CC where the salesman had to open a new TH55 to let me play with it - I've pre-ordered from e-cost but got spooked by the posts here regarding slowness. I'm coming from a NX-70 and am accustomed to its 200 mhz speed.
Verdict: Speed is not an issue. Couldn't really tell any difference in speed with any of the normal apps compared to the NX-70 - there is a barely noticeable delay within the new organiser but for me it's a non-issue. I've breathed a sigh of relief and will patiently await my mail-order unit for $80 less than CC!
One other point - the 0.3 MP camera seems to take better pictures than my 0.3 MP NX-70 camera - maybe different lens or software? Anyone compared head -to-head to confirm this?

| markat7088, since you already there at CC, opened the box and played with it, might as well could have bought it there too and have it in your hand then w/o waiting for 2 more weeks for the darn thing. That was what I did today. CC price matched my $319.99 BB preorder. I thought I was too late when I saw Griff got his from the same CC (West Oak Mall in Houston) on Saturday. By the time I got there this morning, thank goodness there were still 2 left, so I snatched one. I just finished cancelling the BB preorder.
Oh BTW, CC here told me about their new policy of charging 15% restocking fee for any purchase starting march 1st. So my purchase is still good with the old policy (0% restocking fee for returns within 14 days of purchase date ).
