Yes, it's the software! This is an old topic, but lost when Clie Source lost it's database back in January.

Their website doesn't say too much about it. I read somewhere that someone was preparing a review for PDAgeek. Anyone know anything about it? |
The last thing I had heard was a third party was working on a new module. The holdup on most of what we could have, has been Sony's lack of supplying information to developers!

I have been using one for several weeks now. It works well, except for an all too frequent need for soft resets. I make sure that I take along a paper clip whenever I take a trip.(lost my stylus some time ago, just use my fingernail or the back of a plastic pen now).
When I don't have to soft reset, the unit works great. The initial satellite fix is very fast. The Mapopolis maps are, of course, INCREDIBLE!
The soft resets are necessary for getting the Clie to connect to the Holux. The need is unpredictable, but quite frequent. After the reset, I get a message from Mapopolis saying that "hacks are not compatible with Mapopolis." The only hack I might have is something called "medtoolshack" which is part of ePocrates.
All in all, I love it. Just don't leave home without a paperclip.

| Does it crash, or will it just not recognize it without the reset? It looks like a nice unit. Is $200.00 a good price for a GPS that works with a PDA? |

| Does it make calculate routes for you and tell you where to turn like the big boys do? |

The Clie does not crash, it just refuses to recognize the Holux without a reset. Sometimes I can turn the Clie on and off without a glitch, other times I have to reset. Once it gets going, it doesn't quit.

Since I already had Mapopolis, the unit only cost about $140. Again, Mapopolis running on an NX is a truly amazing thing. Try it and you will be buying it.
>Does it make calculate routes for you and tell you where to turn like the big boys do?
No.
I tried 2 different GPS uints for my iPaq that were supposed to do that. They were near worthless. You could not hear or understand the voice prompts. The directions were sometimes just plain wrong. Of course, for $2000 you can get the Magellan unit such as found in the Hert rentals. Since I tried that, I never rent from anyone else on business trips. Hopefully, my next car will have a built in Magellan.

Whoops, slight mistake on my part. You can calculate an initial route with Mapopolis. It shows as a green line on the screen. This initial calculation is pretty quick and easy to do. However, if you stray from the course, it won't recalculate automatically.
Hopes this helps.
