Impossible to install Palm desktop for CLIE... URGENT! Had T3 before.

Well, this is my first thread. who would have thought so...
First of all, let me say 'great forum', because it helped me gain some more understanding of my new UX50. I do not regret buying it.

I have a problem though.

I own a Tungsten T3 (which i will sell by the way, so if anyone is interested, just message me ). I had installed the palm desktop for the T3. I uninstalled it (as it was the most logical option for me to do because it still has all those T3 specific PIM stuff and other T3 thingies in it). After that, i tried to install the Palm desktop for the UX50 from the CD (i have the US ux50). Now, after installing it, it opened up correctly (even though unable to perform a hotsync), but it showed some of the old T3 specific PIM sections, without correct icon (i guess file was missing after uninstall). this led me to believe that there had to be some information in the registry that had not been deleted.
I uninstalled the Sony Palm desktop again, and cleaned my registry completely of every palm entry it had (those concerning the T3). Reinstall of the UX50 desktop. Now it wouldn't even start at all, giving me some error (sorry didn't write it down, was too #^%#^$#).
Installed T3 palm desktop again and checked and actually could even hotsync with my UX50 (oh wonder) but because all ux50 PIM things and apps were missing, i decided to go for SONY's version of the desktop.
This time I installed it WITHOUT uninstalling the T3 desktop. It loaded up fine. but now it had like all icons and sections in it. T3 AND ux50. Furthermore, the ux50 did not synchronize the 'CLIE memo'. it didn't sync anything except my adressbook.
(back to being @%#@%#)
I have tried all different combinations of hybrid installs or standalones, it just WON'T $%^&* work.

So, is there a way to install the sony Palm Desktop after having owned a T3? it seems kinda like a joke to me. I mean... it should not be THAT difficult? i usually do not have problems with stuff like that, but here i am going frenzy.

thank you for your help and keep up the good work....

This might be far too basic -- though sometimes it's the "right under my nose" things that work.

I, too, had a T3 and had some issues getting the UX50 up. I'm clear that you did the uninstall of the T3 stuff but did you manually delete the folder C:\PALM. The uninstall doesn't do that. It has to be deleted after you uninstall.

With all your hard work, clearing the registry, etc. I'm guessing that you DID do this. But, if you didn't, that will cause the old T3 stuff to linger around.

I did delete that folder. It was the thing it did right after uninstalling the software. I copied over only my backup folder (wanted some apps again) to another location/HDD.

Yet.... it doesn't work and i am still rying out here.... going nuts...lol

Have you given the Clie the same username as the T3 (I did.) I doubt the issues are in the registry, though anything is possible. Make sure that, if you're using the same username, that the folder by that name (usually under C:\PALM) is nowhere to be found on your C drive.

Also, did you install both the T3 and the UX50 in the default folders? For the T3 C:\PALM, for the UX C:\PROGRAM FILES\SONY HANDHELD?

Other than that, I'm out of ideas. You're right. It shouldn't be this hard. But I'm guessing that whatever's causing it is simple and when you find it you'll smack yourself on the forehead.

Bon chance.

lol i hope i will smack myself... although i have been smacking myself last couple of hours because it is NOt working. lol.

yes i do NOt have same username, and the backup folder is on OTHER drive...

furthermore,
just reinstalled Sony's palm desktop again. have nothing else installed and everything else uninstalled and did a reboot.

I now get an error message at the end of the install:
"The selected port, COM1, is not available at this time.
Hotsync Manager will open port when it becomes available"

after that, a second window pops up:
"the hotsync Manager was unable to initialize the TCP/IP connection socket.
Please check your Network Configuration from the windows Control Panel. Make sure you have a TCP/IP network component installed and configured correctly."

As for that, i have my firewire installed and working, my Gigabit lan installed and working, my 100Mbit installed and working and even my bluetooth is installed and working. so i don't understand why all of a sudden THAT pops up.

When i NOw open up Palm desktop for CLIE, it opens but it looks lie THAT (screenshot of the window): http://resource5.free.fr/ux50/palmDT4C_1.jpg

NOTE PAD, PALM PHOTOS and VOICE MEMO are actually from the T3, so why are they still there... and they do NOt have an icon. If i click on them, Palm Desktop freezes and i have to use the task manager to kill the app.

ARGHFL!!!!!!!!!!!
