How slow is camera startup on NZ90?

Acrrodiing to one reveiw, the bad thing they said was that it was real slow startup when taking a picture compared to the NX

Any truth to that?

Thanks

Re: How slow is camera startup on NZ90?

I've timed at nearly 9 seconds (average of 8 sec. and 91/100ths). It feels like a small eternity .

You can only take pictures while the NZ is in tablet mode. That is unless you want to take a picture of yourself while holding it in open clamshell mode.

I haven't timed it with the stopwatch but it seems to take about 3 or 4 seconds to write to the Memory Stick. While it's writing to the stick you can still take more pix- you have to wait about 1 second between shots.

yeah that timing seems about right for 2mp sony cameras. The load seems to be the only thing that hurts but its still worth it.

Come on get realy. Yeah 6 seconds on average but it takes time to turn on a camera and we are using a software driven camera and so it will take time.

This is an excellent point...

Someone should measure the time it takes to put the clie down, pull out their camera (or go out to the car), (or possibly drive home), get their digital or regular camera, turn it on, and take a picture...

Question...

While in open clamshell mode, if one turns the screen to face away from the keyboard (as if getting ready to turn to tablet mode), couldn't a picture be taken without actually closing the unit?

I don't know, but I imagine it would be possible, no?

Talking camera q's

Hi. How U doin? I was wondering about the camera too (and a few other questions, but I'll have to find the right forum for them): can the camera be used as a webcam (if someone develops a softeware for it)? Like, is it mechanically possible? Really??

And, is the video camera portion of it a good quality video, like almost like a camcorder? I live in the desert so I can't actually test one, or any other PDA. The last PDA I ever owned was an HP200lx (about 8 yrs ago), so please answers as if I was a 9 year old. eh, badda bing Thanks...ciao

dgiovanni

p.s. I was wundering if anyone has a picture of the NZ90 with the camera lens cover over the lens? I haven't seen a picture of it ever!

Yes, I suppose you could. The keyboard would be facing at your subject and the LCD would be facing you. Kinda like using it backwards while in clamshell mode. . . staring at the backside of the NZ.

You could use it as a webcam but that is all you would be able to use it for while talking to the person-I will try this and let you know if it is possible-try to link with my friends NX and let you know.

Also have not tested the video yet-sorry-also will let you know.

I timed it 10 times with a stopwatch, and got an average of 8 sec. and 91/100ths.

It might not sound long, but try saying 1 mississippi, 2 mississippi. . . and it does. Here's the scenario: the cat is acting goofy and doing incredibly cute things. With the NX70V, I could catch him in the act, no problemo. With the NZ, by the time the camera is ready, he's already wandered away and back to being his less exciting self. That's why I have a sample photo on our review of the cat sleeping .

However, given the technology we're talking about here, it is quite a wonder-- how much can we expect. And yes, it sure beats running around trying to find the camera :-). Since digicam manufacturers, including Sony, worked hard on improving camera boot times (in early digicams, a big consumer complaint), I hope that the sucessors to the NZ90 are faster. I'm sure they will be.

IS this lag processor dependent? and/OR How the camera functions?

*little experience with digital cameras*

pdagal,

So, even if you set the camera to a lower resolution, then turn it "off", and then reopen it later - it would still take 8 or 9 seconds?? I don't like the sound of that...
