Talking WonderSilk: The Amazing new Silk Plug-in app suite

WARNING: THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION WAS STUMBLED UPON, IS UNOFFICIAL, AND IN NO WAY CONDONES FINDING, INSTALLING, AND USING THE PROGRAM! DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

I stumbled on this over at the CliePlanet.

It's a Silk Plug-in called "WonderSilk" that might open up a TON of potential for the NX series. It's designed for the Japanese OS right now, but it does load and is fully functional on the US OS with a few cosmetic problems (see below.)

Oh my gosh! It took some doing, but this program is potentially a VERY hot item! I downloaded it from the Japanese site, and decided to just blindly install and run it. Not very smart, I know, but this thing is SO COOL!

The site is at http://www.ne.jp/asahi/fairy/chimer...OthersPalm.html and it's in Japanese. Runit through Babelfish, and it's pretty readable.

The distribution consists of six Palm files: One of the included files is the main app, one is the new Silk Plug-in, and the other four are the specific skins. Install them all.

First thing, check the checkbox in the upper right corner. This seems to convert the filenames listed to English. (You DID install all the files didn't you?)

OK, now tap the silk plug-in button on the Status Bar and select "WonderSilk".

Next, Back in the app, select one of the skins listed and tap the highlighted large button on the right of the screen just below the list. This "activates" the selected skin. Notice that there is considerable functionality added to the Virtual Graffiti area.

Some of the skins have MP3 player controls built in (THAT WORK!!) and others add hard button functionality. They include clip board functions, and several other definable buttons.

The button just below the bug button described above activates the Graffiti color. You can tap on the color picker to change the color of the Graffiti "echos" when you write.

The button below that (the one on the bottom) opens a dialog that allows you to define 5 "Text clips" that will be inserted if you tap on a corresponding button found on a couple of the skins. Kind of a permanent clipboard for often-used words/phrases.

Tapping the menu button brings up 5 uninteligible selections.

Not sure what the top one does.

Not sure what the second one does.

The third one opens up an app picker that allows you to assign up to 8 apps to 8 buttons. These buttons appear on a couple of the skins.

The bottom one is the "About" screen.

That's about it. The concept is that the Graffiti area can be transformed into a multi-function area that can do WAY more than just Graffiti input.

This app, while entirely in Japanese now, is VERY COOL. This has HUGE potential. I just wish there wasn't the language barrier.

ONE MAJOR NOTE: This is a Japanese OS style Graffiti area, so the four "extra" Japanese buttons are active on the left side of the Graffiti area, and though they seem to respond, they don't activate anything on the US OS version. Also, the Graffiti area, displays in the center, and accepts input, but sometimes conflict with the four Japanese buttons on the left.

This is what I've been waiting for. I can't wait for this to be ported to English.

Does anyone see an email link on the page to ask about an english translation of wondermaker? I don't see one, unfortunately... babelfish could make a good enough email for them to understand what we're asking if we can find the link.

Interesting... I could recode the dialogs to be English once I figure out EXACTLY what everything does. If I do it, I'll post...  some parts of it look like they might be beyond my ability as I don't know how they managed to access the silk plugin function calls, though.

I might be able to get rid of the non-working Japanese buttons that aren't on the English NX... I'll experiment a bit tomorrow. It looks like it comes with a way to modify any skins you want, or I may be able to alter the program with prcedit/explorer.

Info I gleaned from a cursory look at the page and coding:

It allows for up to 40 elements/buttons

You might be able to make regular hardbuttons with it for using in games

Things such as placing a calculator popup inside the graffiti area WITHOUT EXITTING your current app may be possible.

You can likely make the buttons animate after being pressed.

This software looks very promising...

Yep, but a great help nevertheless. GET IT. And would one of you japanes guys mind translating WonderSilk (using Constructor) and/or WonderMaker (using Resource Hacker)??? That would be so great!

The first one appears to be an import button. Click the button on the bottom middle and you get an error, but just above it are the words "Now Importing...."

Has anyone figured out how to change the program icons in the "SampleSkin By TW"?  They may be coded in the program because I see a NetFront icon, but done't have that loaded.  It launches anything I assign to it.

I am assuming you use the associated "WonderMaker" program. I downloaded it, and it looks VERY flexible and complete, I just can't figure it out! AAhhrrgghh!

Actually, no, I couldn't figure that out either.  I just installed the 6 files and selected the "TW" skin.  I assigned 8 programs to the 7 buttons [haven't figured THAT one out yet - where's the 8th button?] and the icons showed up.  But not the right icons.

amost figured out

I think i almost have this thing figured out...I figured out how to modify the sample skins and import them to my clie. keep in mind that i dont speak a lick of japanees so these directions are just what ive come up with by playing around.

To Modify a plugin skin.

1) Open the wondermaker app.
2) Open the directory on your PC that contains the samples plugins.
3) Drag and drop one of the samples onto the wondermaker app...this will populate wondermaker app with all the components of that sample.
4) click on the components accross the bottom that you wish to change or move. to change a component you simply need to click on it and then drag and drop any .bmp from your PC. (the wondermaker app came with some to test with)
5) once you have all the changes made that you want to make click on the large button on the right side of the wondermaker app. It is the second button from the top. (it is labled ??... on my computer cause i dont have any language packs installed)
6) This will bring up a windows save popup box... save the file as whatever you like as long as you keep the .wsb extension
7) Create a \palm\programs\wondersilk directory on your memory stick
8) use ms import to copy your .wsb file onto your ms in the wondersilk directory.
9) open the wondersilk app on your clie
10) click on the menu and select the first option
11) you will then be able to see the new skin that you put in your wondersilk directory... make sure it has a check mark next to it and tap the button in the bottom center of the screen.... this will import the new silk plugin skin.
12) it will then be added to your list of available skins on the main screen
13) select it as you would any other skin and you are good to go

Hope this helps...sorry i dont have any more details but this is the best i can piece together... maybe someone else can fill in the fine details..
