when a Hard Reset doesnt work at all

okay so I have an NR70V. Have had it for a few months and ive always been happy with it. Occasionally id need to do a hard reset for reasons I cant really fathom. Glad to have trusty ol backup systems!

Now however..maybe it was the cold..but i walked with it to work this morning..NY is about 18 degrees at this time. I was playing the Audio player too so it was running.

But when I get to work, I open it to try to change to another program and BAM!!!...the screen wont respond to anything at all.

So I do a hard reset. After the Clie logo pops up, the "startup/remove the stylus" screen did NOT show. Uh oh. SO I Hard reset again to yet NO avail.

After 5 mins of hard resetting and a whole lot of problems. Like beeping 2-3 times everytime i touched the screen and yet no response.

I got my clie from Ebay so I cant very well return it for an exchange. So where would I go if I want to get this serviced? Any sort of repair site or something?

I really Dont want to have to buy a new one. It took months jsut to earn enuogh to get this first one.

OH, PS: as far as hacks go, I used the Jacksprat/safe/flash como and all I removed was the big 2MB demo and the MS Gate feature ( I think that was what it was called)

Help??

Be very patient. I had one I thought was dead. I did many hard resets and restored the original ROM when I got the chance. I acted really very strange, for a long time. I thought I let the batteries drain 4-5 times, and every once in a while went to check it to see if it was still bad, it always was. I called Sony and they kinda told me my processor was bad and it would cost $120 to fix it, since I too got mine on Ebay. I just put it aside and bought a new one. After about 3-4 weeks I decide to charge it and check just one more time, and it now works again ;-)
It's a long time to wait to completely drain it, but you do have to be very patient. After it turns off from the low battery, let it sit at least a few days to completely drain the battery.

I friend of mine had the same problem.  After letting it sit for a couple of hours, she recharged the "dead" PDA and it was back to it's original configuration.

It's just going to take some time to fully discharge the battery.

One last thing, you mentioned that you were listening to MP3s prior to this problem occuring.  Did you have the Hold button activated and did you turn it off?  Just a thought.  I've forgotten that myself several times.

This has happened to me before and the quickest way is to remove the six little screws that hold the casing on. It will invalidate the warranty but there aren't any seals that break, so unless you damage the heads of the screws, I don't know how Sony would know.

One you have the back off the device carefully remove the battery connector and leave it off for 30 seconds. Reconnect the battery and re-assemble. Make sure the 'hold' switch is normal position before putting the cover back on.

The whole process takes about 10-15 minutes and doesn't need any special skill except the ability to keep the tiny screws in a safe place while its cover is off.

It will work after this.

thanks piloteer but its okay now..when i got the power to about 30% I stuck in the MS with eh backup in it and did one more hard reset..this time i was barely able..BUT ABLE to get to the MS backup screen (couldnt use the stylus..i had to use the scroll wheel and pressing it to select)...but YES it worked!

guess when my clie saw its impending doom it realized it had to wizen up and clean up its act for me...

but ill def remember your trick..i just need those eyeglasses screwdrivers to unscrew it..
