| Getting tired of Handango I'm getting tired of Handango, which has been my preferred site for purchasing apps. What I'm tired of are develpers who pretend to update their software so that it keeps appearing on the "Updated" list. I'm also disappointed that I complained to Handango and haven't received a reply from them.
Case in point: Cool Gadgets. They have some apps that are always appearing on the list but without actual updates to the software: Pre-qual calc, Tip Calc, etc. They have a crapload of crap on the top 10 list at the moment.
I don't see these apps appearing on PalmGear so can only assume that PG does a better job of preventing such shenanigans.
Sorry, just felt like venting.

| The same thing is definitely happening on Palmgear, although it does seem to have seen to be getting better. |

| Eh, so far so good with them.
Not like I buy much s/w... I usually depend on PEOPLE here for me to find out about upgrades, or other PDA related websites AND NOT these online sellers... considering all PG began to do... don't trust them...

| You know, it's true, it IS hard to tell what's truly new or updated. I have a few programs I watch regularly for updates, checking the developer site ~ or by being a beta tester for it.
It's safe to say that I depend on ClieSource forums now for finding out about updates to software I use and new programs.

| As a developer I can say that on Handango there is no way to make the "silent" update.
Let me explain...
On PalmGear a developer has two update options: "Update" and "Bug Fix/Modifications". And only "Update" goes to "Newest" section of the site.
On Handango, there is no such option. So, even minor changes (e.g. updates screenshot or fixed binaries) are counted as update. So, developers cannot control this. And most of developers are not guilty.
Nevertheles, of course there are a lot of developers who cheat updating their titles daily. That's the real difficaulty both for users and for honest developers, whose real updates are lost among that cheating crap . |

I know a lot of people have been upset at developers for abusing the system on Handango, but it sounds like for a lot of them, it's not their fault. |

| Actually, I'm a developer, and I haven't figured out how to get Handango to list something as Updated. I update the product information (version) as well as the files, but it never appears as updated...so, how do you go about getting it to make it say updated???
I do like PalmGear's system better, though...where you can either do an update or a bug fix.
I do recall a specific case on Handango where this guy was releasing some Bible software EVERYDAY, updating the minor version number every day, to get it to appear as newly updated. He was charging only $1 for this software. As it turns out, the Bible software he was selling for $1 was a version of the Bible that is under copyright, and royalty fees are higher than $1...so it was obviously a scam or illegal. I reported this to Handango. They eventually did something about it...but it took a long time.
Now, I do update my software frequently...typically one every month or two...but I am talking additions of new features. Daily updating is just wrong, though.
