Safely Delete Files (noobie question)

hello, at the risk of sounding like the real noobie i am, i would like to delete some files off my NX70V pda. currently on the RAM i have documents to go installed, on the Memory Stick i have Bejewled, Filez, GTS racing, Phoenix, Shuffle, SlovoEd dictionary, SolFree and WorldMate demonstration version.

i noticed in my RAM there are 4 files: 003A, 003A.TMP, 003B and 003B.TMP. these files add to a total of 150KB. although this is not a great loss, i would like to know if its safe to delete these files without hampering the function of any of my programs (eg, i deleted the Classic and Classic II levels off my RAM and could no longer play Vexed, even a reinstall didnt help).

im just unsure about deleting the files, ive hampered my PDAs functionality enough by deleting things i dont know about.

thanks for everyones help.

I'm not exactly sure what those files are, but one thing you can do is go into Filez and set it up to sort the files in RAM by Creator ID. If an application has the same Creator ID as those files, then that's what they go to. If not, the files could still be important. But at least you have a better idea if they belong to an app or not.

it appears that 003A.TMP and 003B.TMP is created by "SLEA" and 003A and 003B are made by SLEC. this makes no sense to me. can anyone make sense of this?

I tried searching the Palm Creator ID database, but it didn't tell what applications those are associated with. Hopefully someone has these files and knows what they are.

i could just do a MS backup, delete the files and if anything goes drastically wrong do a restore. but im still intrigued as to why im the only one with these files.

EDIT how can i get screenshots for my NX? i know about that screenshot hack but does it work in OS5 (doubt it)? if i can get some screenshots i will post them.

sanJ:
I have these same files on my CLIE ... i dont remember the names but they do have the .tmp extension. These appeared after I started saving and running stuff from the Mem Stick directly. I think these are temporary files that are storing data from certain applications (like the last saved position of a game or the highest score) - these dont get stored on the stick and it uses the Clie's memory for this. Also it could be some sort of cache that the Clie uses for certain application ... stuff like GPS racing need memory space to unpack and run .. they could also be storing stuff on the internal memory ... whatever it maybe ... taking a back up and deleting them should not cause much problem ... just be sure that you dont make any irreversible damage (or anything thats too hard to undo !!!) ...

OHHHH i seeeee

that works, because i run all my programs off memory stick except Documents To Go (because it wont let me copy them over )

and thats prolly why GTS racing takes so darn long to shut down

heh seraphim :-P

well i did lose my high score on GTS racing, but that game is so friggin easy i regained that pretty quickly.

hey while im here, does anyone know how to get Vexed working again on my NX70? i deleted two files from RAM: Classic and Classic II levels, then i deleted the program altogether and reinstalled it, then it said "cannot find level pack". I even tried installing the Classic and Classic II level packs from the zip archive to no avail. Im talking about Vexed 2.0.

never played Vexed but if I were you I'd try uninstalling everything and restalling the same way you did the first time ...

P.S. - (off the topic - sorry!) if you like GTS racing, u cud try Zap by the same guys ...
