Angry Don't Buy A UX-50!!!

Just got off the phone with Sony "Customer Service" (and I use that term VERY loosely). I have been double-shafted. I spent last week trying to get their "tech support" to understand that I had the infamous "screaming screen". Because they kept sending me bogus "fixes", I went over my 30 day return date.

Now Sony won't do the return, because I'm over the 30 days!

So, let's review:

Sony has extremely poor "technical support" (Again, I'm stretching the limit of this term). They told me that to fix the screen problem I had to move some files. Twice.

Because Sony's technical support couldn't comprehend the problem, I'm not allowed to return my UX-50 because in the interim I went over the 30 days.

Now I'm into my one year warranty. So let's see how many forums I can post this to in the next 300 days...

THEN I'll send my UX-50 back for repairs!!!!!!!

What's your problem? It's outside the 30 day return period? Boo hoo.

Sony are still required to repair it under warranty so I don't see what you're complaining about.

yea sorry to hear about your problem.

A lot of us have the whiny screen problem.

I returned my whiny UX50 to Best Buy because I bought the warranty and got it exchanged for another UX50. After 3 weeks, guess what? Yep it's beginning to whine. Not as loud as before and I really hope it doesn't get worse cuz my old clie hurt my ears!

I guess I will just have to wait for OS6 before I return and use the warranty again. I don't think I wanna get another UX50 again.

it is an awesome machine though, you should just send in your UX50 to get it fixed. Speaking of which, has ANYONE sent in their whining UX50 to get their screen replaced and fixed successfully?

I hear some T3 owners have a screen that whines too... =(

but yea, I can understand why you're upset. The clie is a very high end expensive machine. It shouldn't be prone with problems. Get it fixed!

actually this whine problem was "problem" even on old good palm pilots and all the followers. It varies from model to model. the best which had no whining was TG50. I guess UX50 has this problem because of the new screen sony uses so it's not so tweaked yet.

It didn't bothered me on my old IIIxe 2-3 years ago and I hope it wont bother me with my new UX50 which I'm just going to pick up :-) there are ways how to fix it, but I with UX50 it might be a problem since yo have to open the unit and fix the transmitter.

Yes, sony tech support sucks!
I own a NX70V and a cyber shot and some sony products, but i live in mexico and sony products are very expensive here, like UX50 it cost 900 usd and the nx70v it cost 700 usd, so i buy a lot of products in the US.
Last week my girlfriend went to San Antonio TX and the guys at Sony shop sold them a "refurbished" cybershot that it doesnt work, im very upset because warranty is us based so what im going to do? i think that they must told her that it was refurbished, i feel like if that she was cheated!
I think that im not going to buy anything of Sony in the future!

I'm sure Sony is trembling in their boots because of you...maybe you can make them go out of business.

I have a NX70 collecting dust due to my new Zodiac. I have owned many Clies but now I'm tired of Sony's proprietary stuff. Get a T3 if your into more business like apps. I was intially excited about the UX50, but the small screen turned me off. Now its a whiny screen? I have made the right choice after all. I don't miss the integrated camera, voice recorder and even Wifi, that sucks up battery life like crazy. Games are much more fun for me and being able to use the Z as a PDA is a huge asset. Besides, all this can be added later to the Zodiac. However, Sony is such an innovative company and who knows whats cooking in the back. I agree that their tech support sucks, Palm is so much better. I can't seem to escape Sony though. I may not use their PDA much, but I'm loving my new Sony rear projection 50 inch LCD high def. TV, DVD player and so on and so on.......!

What are you people talking about? I've just about every clie out there and I own a UX50 now. I've never had a screen whine on me.

I have not giving up hope on Sony. I'm sure they will come up with another to make us drool. The Zodiac is groundbreaking with the price and its gaming abilities, thats why I got it. Its just downright slick to me. The great Larry F. who was a big Clie enthusiast and helped a lot of folks in this forum share the same views I do. Now he has a T3 and loving it. Sony definitely needs some catching up, with all their resources they can potential come up with an amazing PDA\Game handheld too. But they would need their games and pda divisions to communicate and share ideas. If the two somehow combined it would be fantastic. We all know its all about money and that might off set their PS2s and upcoming PSP maybe even the whole Clie line. It would end up as one great product and not a bunch of good ones. IMO, the best pda with multi media is still the NX80v. Its just bigger than the UX and no integrated wifi. I have wifi set up at home and the LAN card with my NX, and I haven't even taken advantage of it. I'm considering bluetooth right now to hook up to the net with the Z. Having said that, I hear there is development for wi-fi that could cover a 25 to 30 mile radius. Thats something to wait for!
