| iPDA UX50 HotSync + Charger Cradle Kit I hate to start a new thread but I think this is a new and interesting development that needs to be all by itself. It was posted that http://shop.brando.com.hk/ipdaux50s...ercradlekit.php was available so I checked it out. It looks great and like the solution that me and others have been looking for. I have some questions before I consider buying it. It looks like some of you guys have ordered from Brando and HK - how did that work out? Does Brando have a US site or does anyone else have this? Package 1 is hotsync and charge with a new cradle Package 2 is charge only with a new cradle. WOW this is what I've been looking for!! Good price too! Anyone have it? Does it work? Why would I NOT want it? It looks like there is a USB, a power, and another hole. What is the other hole? Also another picture looks like there is a switch on front - is that a release? I assume the directions, that state turn off power if you are not charging is because it is a trickle charge? Need some advice, wanted to start a new thread, and thought you all would be happy to hear about this - even though I am not the originator.

| I think the other hole might be for the charge cable that comes with the UX |

| whats the other hole for:
Based on the contents of "package 2" and the connectors pictured on the cradle, the cradle is set up to take power (only) from either the coax plug, as found on the cable in "package 1", or from a MiniUSB like the cable in "package 2".
Package 1 looks like it will do data and trickle charge at the same time. Package 2 looks like it will do either but not both at the same time; you would need to move the MiniUSB conncection from the Clie to the cradle to charge. They may used the coax on the package 1 cable to avoid user mistakes though my experience with generic MiniUSB cables indicates that having power on the Clie end of the MiniUSB is no problem for the Clie and having a set of unused data lines at the crable would be no issue. Perhaps there is a "Package 3" somewhere in Bando's mind that would be their cradle with a AC adapter that uses the coax connection. Perhaps an AC brick shared with other Bando products. Who knows.
BTW, you should be able to use a _powered_ USB hub, even without connecting it to a computer, as a power source to charge (trickle charge probably) a UX50 using either package. It would become sort of a replacemnt AC adapter that way.

| Concur - I think sony was trying to sell their DC10 cable car adapter, extra cradles, and batteries. This should have been built in! No cradle! Like some other post said all that was inside was a metal plate and some connectors. I should've been able to plug the adapter right into the UX!! |

| I have a sync cable like the one in package two, but for the SJ-33. It absolutely draws power from the USB port and charges the device. I love it. |

| I placed an order for Package 1 + the mini-USB retractable cable + a wall adapter w/USB output.
I decided that I might want the Y-hotsync cable and it isn't available independent of the base. Normally I don't sync on the road, but the difference in cost was minimal. |

I used to work for Sony. What little profit they make in consumer electronics is all from accessories. |

| I ordered mine. Package 2. I do all of my syncing wirelessly anyway. I intend to keep it in my briefcase for emergency charging or for long or weekend trips. I didn't see the point is schleping around the larger Y-cable. I also have a car cigarette lighter to USB adapter so I can charge my UX in the car with this thing.
My only regret was that I bought the extended battery to use for emergencies. I don't expect I'll ever use that now. I wonter if the extended battery can be charged from this thing. I don't see why not; anyone care to opine? |
