| More place on the Virtual Memory Stick Some preinstalled softwares from SONY are not installed in ROM or "protected in RAM" anymore...
They are on a "hidden" folder of the VMS (Virtual Memorystick) you can't see using Clie Files, but with McFile or Filez it is ok...
The folder name is "SYSTEM" on the root of the VMS...
In the folders are installed the following softwares (on a japanese UX):
-> CLIEDemo ( 687 kB)
-> JEDict ( 86 kB)
-> MMFlash (727 kB)
-> PhotoEditor (339 kB)
-> Photostand (943 kB)
-> Picsel Viewer (3 363 kB)
-> Remote Cam (309 kB)
-> WoldAlarmClock (60 kB)
The total amount is 6 514 kB... 6.5 MB...
All these softwares are installed in:
SYSTEM/Palm/AliasExt/
Some data (in fact only the Swf file for ClieDemo) are in:
SYSTEM/Palm/App/CLIEDemo/
The interesting part is that you can remove them by simply changing their attributes with McFile for example... You remove "hidden, Read Only and Archive" and then you can safely delete them...
The good news is that you can copy them to a Memorystick (MS) and then launch the most part of them from the MS...
Some of these softwares (Picsel viewer for example) need to be launch using Power Run, else it won't work...
Well it isn't a "magic trick" to have more RAM, but simply more place on VMS...
EDIT:
Screenshots are Here

| Good Work ! That frees up more memory for additional media. These are the items we should be looking for in the UX.

| If you want to read the actual page, copy the above link and go to av.com - hit 'translate' - paste in the address and choose "French to English" from the pull down.

| Not all those programs in the VirtualMS on my US version, that must account for the different sizes they listed for internal media between US and JPN model. |

| I ditto what sonicboy and others have said, lmame! Very nice work! Thanks for sharing!
Sonicboy -- I will end up getting the JPN version, afterall. So, this info and all the rest that you shared early on will come in handy. |

| Is there anyone who has the Japanese fonts and conversion files? It'd be nice to have them without having to buy a Japanese UX-50.

| Hm... the question is for me, if those programs in the hidden folders behave like they are in the ROM or if they need the additional space in RAM to be able to run.
If the first is true, is it also possible to move other 3rd-Party-Apps from RAM to the hidden space and if they are running from there. If that would be true, you won't have to use stuff like Jackflash... |

| Looks like on the US version picsel is in the ROM - right?
I also can't change the attributes with Filez. Am I doing something wrong?
Do I need to use MCFile? Is it free? Do these show up again after a hard reset? |
