This sucks!

Recently the backlight of my TJ35 went out, and apparently it's a common problem among TJ35's. So I was thinking of either getting it returned to Amazon.com or RMA'ing it with Sony, but so far none of the people on the TJ35 who have RMA'd their TJ35's have gotten it back yet. So I began looking on Amazon.com for a similarly priced Clie, and found the TG50.

It's only $10 more than the TJ35 and, besides the keyboard, also has Remote Commander and a voice recorder. I was all set to get it, but then I found out that Sony Audio Player doesn't play VBR mp3s, and pretty much my entire collection is encoded in VBR.

ARGH! So right now, I could return my TJ35 to Amazon.com and exchange it (and probably have the new one's backlight go out), RMA it to Sony with no estimated time on return, or buy a TG50 (and not be able to play mp3's), or wait for either the TGxx to come out, or for evidence that Sony *can* fix the backlight problem to the TJ35.

ARGH! Sony makes me really mad..

sony makes a lot of us really mad. =(

I was ready to get my gf a new TJ35, as her N760 is WAY outdated, but all these user reports of the backlight on their TJ35 going out... I just can't risk it.

If its within 30 days, amazon will take it back. Depending on how bad you need the PDA, maybe wait a month or two and see what comes out or if Sony fixes the backlight problem. If your backlight goes out, your PDA is almost useless. Very bad defect. Or get something else. T3's are pretty nice if thats within your budget.

Exclamation

I have a T665 and my whole collection of MP3's is coded @ 160 KBPS VBR. Never had a problem transfering or hearing VBR MP3's.

My N770C worked also beautifully with VBR.

Just my fifty € cents.

Yeah. At this point I really don't even want to wait Sony out to see if they fix the backlight problem, I just want to have a functioning Sony Clie that can play mp3s. What I may end up doing is just RMA'ing it with Sony and waiting however long it takes them to fix it...hopefully it's a problem that they'll be able to fix easily. That, or bite the bullet and buy a TG50..
