#1 | | Guest | Camera Quality? I was curious how the Nx80v and Nx73v cameras compared to typical dedicated digital cameras. Or cell phone cameras? I know the resolutions, but I've found quality is much more dependant on the lens and the camera's ability to adjust for light and focus.
The one thing I like most about Clie cameras is they write directly to memory stick and so can take full video. I have a professional Sony camera that does the same but it's big and not good for casual situations. My cell phone is alright but not high quality, doesn't work in other countries (seriously), and no video.
Thanks,

| the NX80 has the best camera quality in the Nx series 1.3MP (the NZ90 has the best in all of the clie's 2 MP)
All clie's take video at 160x120 rez, so its kinda crap, but looks okay on the clie's screen

| Well, that really describes resolution. I have a digital camera, and when I take pictures at 1.3 MP resolution, the "quality" of the digital image is much better than my NX80. Some of the pictures on the NX80 can appear grainy, especially in low light. Considering that the actual camera is so tiny on the NX it does take good pictures. But I would not use the NX80 as a sole substitute for digital photography, if that's what you were orignially getting at. |

| I like using the camera on the NX80 to take quick pictures. Quality is good when you are looking at in Clie Viewer. You can zoom in a little bit, too. But definiitely won't replace a digital camera. |

| IMO Itr's all about the size of the CCD, the resuloution is worth something but a small CCD can't average out imperfections in it's surface.
I use my NX70 in good light conditions (with plenty of light, the graininess effect from the teeny CCD is reduced) and get quite nice photos, perfectly good. If I try it in bad light or need zoom, this go downhill pretty rapidly.
Where possible I use a dedicated camera (I use a Sony F717 and highly recommend it) and keep the clie for quick snaps (it's better for the 'shoot-from-the-hip' style photos) and when I don't have the main camera on me.

NEVER use zoom. It just crops, then enlarges. You can get a better result on the PC.
(The NX has no real zoom.)

| The camera on my NX80 does work great in good lighting conditions. But it can never really substitute my digital camera which has a flash and different focus setting even a better zoom. The camera on clies can never be a real replacement for a digital still camera but only a substitute.

| NX80 Camera review The NX80 camera quality is fairly good. The image sharpness is softer than a CCD camera (This is the characteristic of CMOS sensor rather than CCD). But sometimes you may find it "too soft" making some edge fades. Moreover the purple fringing effect is serious to backlit image.
The picture is bright and the auto white balance is correct when taking picture in a sunny outdoor. But the picture taken indoor or in complicated light condition, the auto white balance seems having problem.
Overall the NX80 camera quality will be much better than most of the embedded snap-shot CMOS cameras. But it is still under lots of improvements to catch up to quality of a real digital camara. |

| I have an NX80 and NZ90. Both do a good job. The 90 can easily be used as a stand alone camera. I have excellent quality pictures that have been printed out. But I've also used the 80 as a camera replacement, like Halloween pictures of my daughter-it did great for that. Now, when I'm going somewhere like a formal garden, yes, I take my stand alone camera, so I can concentrate on close-ups, etc. But I actually use my Clies for everything else, and I'm really starting to use the 90 even more-it takes great pictures.

I agree with babsk. I use it to take a lots of pictures, and I use it like a digital camera, and not as a substitute. (Anyways I don't have a digital cam)
I printed some pictures with my girlfriend and the output was really good in 150 dots per inch.

| i like the camera on the NZ as well
my CD mavica is just massive
CD1000 is on the right.
so you can see how great it is to tote around the NZ instead of the mavica. sure the picture quality might not be as great, but i never use the high quality features of the mavica anyway

| On a second look at one of the 1600x1200 daytime shots, I was pretty impressed by the fidelity: http://www.infosyncworld.com/review...?id=3402&page=8
I've found all cameras even my DSC have problems at low-light settings without flash. Difference is, the DSC717 has a long-exposure mode that completely overcomes this problem if you have a tripod. |
