Hi all,

This is my first post -- glad I found this site!

I have used my N610c since it came out with nary a problem....but about a month ago the unit became 'insensitive' to my graffiti strokes....to the point that it was laughable (a=z, etc). I have done everything 'standard' -- hard/soft boot, reload, reload and reload...many times each.

So here is my question(s):

1) any brilliant ideas to increase the sensitivity again?

2) As I studied the screen I noticed a bit of 'something' that appears to be 'under' the surface. Does this unit have a plastic covering that can be replaced? (thinking is that this would increase the sensitivity...)

I have tried many different stylus' and have found that basically, if I push hard it will understand me about 70-80% of the time....which is, of course, not even good enough for taking quick notes.

Battery power isn't lasting as long as it used to but it will hold the color screen for 10+ days so I don't think its a battery issue....(but what do I know...)

btw, [side question] I just purchased a Sony reconditioned SJ22. Is there a cradle out there that works with it?

If you don't use screen protector, you'll eventually scratch the digitizer with stylus to the point where writing becomes difficult to be recognized. I have seen and helped replaced digitizer/glasstops of two N760Cs for that same problem. It isn't cheap parts ($50) and not easy to replace.

The digitizer is a thin, flimsy, and easily scratch material glued on a thin piece of glass. As you drag the stylus tip across the digitizer surface, any fine particulates trapped between the stylus tip and the digitizer will act as sand paper and grind the digitizer surface. The harder you write, the worst it gets. To prevent this, install screen protector and write lightly.

Dust behind the screen is notorious for this model. There are several discussion about it in this N-series forum. I took mine apart and sealed any dust entry with electrical tape by following this sealing procedure. The screen has been free of dust for almost a year now.

My N610 did the exact same thing but only in certain areas of the screen. I downloaded a file called ReDigi and ran it. It seems to have fixed my problem. You can get the file at:

my n760 had a similar problem. I fixed the screen+graffiti areas by using this app:

It really works. If you have to fix the graffiti area you'll have to purchase the full version. It is well worth it because sony asks about $100 to repair the digitizer.

If you need to repair the screen/digitizer, have a look at http://www.palmpilotupgrade.com. They have replacement glass and they also now have 32MB upgrades for the N-series.

As far as 32MB upgrade, I've done it with RunPDA, which is cheaper and better, IMHO. With RunPDA 32MB upgrade, I can still use FastCPU upto 55MHz w/o any problem. I heard some people have problem with the upgrade done by other outfits when they try to overclock the RAM speed beyond 40MHz. Just search threads about them in this site. RunPDA also do glass/digitizer replacement.
