Just found this sight - and it has been very helpful!

Help needed:

I transfered a .MQV to my pc and deleted it from my memory stick. I tried to transfer it back to my NX-70v memory stick a couple of ways.

1) By using MS export - error message came up saying it does not recognize the file extension .MQV. I tried it anyways - the file is on the stick but viewer does not see it or open it.

2) By adding it directly to the memory stick as a drive. It is on the stick but the movie viewer does not see it.

I have put it into two different directories:

Palm/programs/MoviePlayer/100MQV01
and
MQ_ROOT/100MQV01

What am I doing wrong?

If you copy the MQV from PC to mem stick using MSImport (ie directly to memory stick as a drive) it should to the trick.

Put it in /MQROOT/100MQV01 and make sure it's called 'MOV00xxx.MQV' where xxx is a three digit number. ANy other name and MoviePlayer won't find it.

Make sure you don't have an MAI file in /Palm/Programs/MoviePlayer/100MQV01 with a similar name or MoviePlayer will try and use it for name and thumbnail info (I just delete everything in that directory as I don't need thumbnails).

Also, make sure you have the right format selected in MoviePlayer, you want 'Movie Player format' or it won't see them.

It is not that I am disagreeing because maybe it is only me but I can copy the mqv file and name it appropriately but unless I make a copy of an existing, valid *.mai file, I cannot get the movie to be seen.

For example, I have a short video that was copied from MPEG to the memory stick using image converter. So there is an MOV0001.MQV and an MOV0001.MAI file.

I copy my new MQV movie calling it MOV0002.MQV to the memory stick using MS Export (or whatever) and then copy the MAI file and call it MOV0002.MAI

Now I can see the movie (MOV0002.MQV) but I have had mixed results with the updating thumbnail and duration information.

Sometimes it will say my movie is the same length as the original one that I copied the MAI file from.

Anyone see this or have a better work-around?

This may sound stupid b/c the movie is already in clie format, but try using image converter. If it doesn't let you, then change the extension to .mov and try again.

sounds like it might work but on trying, it further reduces the size of the file and it does see it in the movie player but when I try to play it, it does not play and locks the Clie. I have to reset it then.

Plus, it takes a long time for Image Converter to process. I was using a 70 MB file and may do some testing with a smaller file.

But, I did find out that if I have existing MQV movies on my Clie and then copy new ones, I need to make sure the new ones are named so as to be a higher number than the what is there.

For example, in my testing, I had an existing movie called MOV00012.MQV (because I had deleted previously added moves/etc.

If I copy a new movie but make sure I name it MOV00013.MQV, I am fine. The movie shows up and I can update the thumbnail and the appropriate MAI file gets created/updated.

If I don't have any movies and copy a new one, it all works fine so the problem and what you need to avoid is adding movies that are using a lesser number in the naming convention.
