Movies on the tj35

is anyone watching or converting movies for the tj35.  What program...(kinoma, mm player, etc) are you using to view the movies?

Kinoma 2! You can set the framerate of your movies noticeably higher than Sony's Movie Player... but you have to cut-down on sound quality and vice-versa.

Cool Too Cool!

Man, I'm just a rookie with all this multi-media stuff on the handheld, but this Kinoma Player is awesome. So, I downloaded a few movie trailers from the Sony site in the Kinoma format (Crouching Tiger; MIB2; Spiderman) - wow. Does anyone know of other sites where you can get movies? I'm sure I'll eventually want to get the producer and make my own, but this is pretty cool. Can you convert any movie into Kinoma format?

The Kinoma movies on the Sony site SUCKS because they're old. If you have a TJ, I suggest you harness its full potential by converting your own movies since they will look and sound better. I believe you can convert common types of movies into the Kinoma format (MPEG, MPG, MOV, AVI, etc.).

You can download the Kinoma Producer trial before you buy.

You're probably right - this is too much fun. I'm looking forward to seeing what I can do with it.

Question DVD to Kinoma

With the Kinoma Producer can I record clips from a DVD movie and bring them into my TJ35? Or is there another step that has to happen in between?

I've been experimenting with MMPlayer this weekend...

well, It's ALMOST there - so very frustrating..

I can play a Divx on my TJ35 and fit a whole 1 hr 50 min Movie
320x240 12.5 fps (was 25 fps pal) with Mono Audio
in 128 MB, which I couldnt do In Kinoma at all..

The Picture quality is Great, the sound OK, but it can't play for more than a few minutes without freaking out and the sound going haywire.. and the lip sync is terrible if you jump further into the film..

It's a shame, cos the player is ohh 90% there, but that last 10 % kills it for me..

If kinoma had HALF the quality at the same bitrate it'd be ok, but DiVX is Miles ahead of the Kinoma format at low bitrates..

I guess we'll have to wait for MMplayer to be finished.. I wish the developer the best of luck

What is the process of putting a movie into that format? Do you record it as you play it on your computer? or is there some conversion process? This is probably a real basic question, but I just don't have any knowledge about going from a DVD to any other format. I read the Kinoma users guide, but that assumes that you already have a file like and MPEG or DiVX.

you might want to try something like Dr.Divx from Divx networks if you're new to ripping dvd's.. other wise perhaps try looking at this page : http://www.doom9.org/ , which has a lot of guides.

then, once you have your divx you can plonk the file into Kinoma Producer and Voila! you have a Kinoma movie.

if you're looking to do whole movies though, you're gonna need a Darned BIG MS - minimum 128 mb and that's for short films, 256 MB or even Better 512 MB MS PRO would be better, but it's a lot to pay to see a film on a Clie in my opinion.

That's why I was looking at MMplayer and Divx.

Best of luck to you

Thanks!

Craig:
Thanks for your help. I also found an FAQ at Pocket Movie that was very helpful.

It's kind of a drag that they have all these rules about copying movies (though I understand the copyright reasons) - but the DVD companies do nothing to provide means to replace scratched products or to convert them to other formats. I don't fully understand why I shouldn't be able to convert a movie that I purchased to a format that I can take with me and view.

As far as Mem Stick - I have a 128 mb stick and don't plan to go any higher - I'm with you that it's a bit too much to pay for the novelty of watching a movie on my clie. I also have the Star Trek Next Generation DVD's - probably a more appropriate length for conpying to a Memory Stick.

What I'm even more interested in doing is pulling out clips from movies for use on my clie, but also for use in presentations and such. I work a lot with mid-hi and Sr Hi students and a 30-second clip in the middle of a teaching presentation can go a long way in improving communication. But it is such a pain to load up the DVD, find the clip and make sure that the player doesn't go to sleep while you're waiting. So finding a way to rip short clips is something I've been interested in for a while. So I'm going in two directions. The ripping for the Clie is mainly novelty. But, my kids sure think Dad is cool when he can show them trailers and stuff on his clie

Again, thanks for all the help.
