| TJ35 vs SJ33: great but: polyphonic, stylus I went rapidly from a SJ22 to a SJ33 (one week) to a TJ35 (four days).
Here are my thoughts:
1. I miss the MIDI chip in the SJ33. I had long classical pieces as alarms, and they sounded amazing; now, with the TJ35, I'm back to beeping alarms. I assume the three very short "nice-sounding" alarms that come with the TJ are wav files; otherwise, I miss the MIDI chip. I naively assumed that I'd lose nothing with the TJ35 that I'd had with the SJ33. Oops.

2. The SJ33 seemed more solid. Whilst one might hate the big case, it had an air of indestructibility about it.
The Flip cover added to that impression.
- 5 points for the SJ33 -
3. I miss OS4. What's with the profoundly awful launcher Sony introduced with the TJ35? It's unusable.

4. The TJ is smaller. It's not as bright as my orange SJ33, but it *is* solid metal. And it's *small*. And it's solid where the SJ33 just seemed solid, the TJ is more solid. And it's flip cover is less space-consuming than the SJ's, and more practical.

| I'm with you in one respect, but not in another. I, too, had the SJ33, and I loved it...with the exception of the OS. I hated OS 4. The only thing that made it useable is Sony's ability to include the hi-rez screen.
Now, I'm with you on it's general form-factor, though. I loved the integrated, "translucent" flip cover. That was pretty cool, and it fit very nicely to the rest of the PDA.
As far as the sound...I haven't had much reason to actually use the alarms, etc. in any of my PDA's (Pocket PC's included). Not sure why, but I've just never used them much. As the matter of fact, in all my "machines", I pretty much use "silent" mode...a slim arrangement of sounds for stuff in all of them. |

I understand your frustration. I will always miss my orange SJ33. I will always wonder if I made the right decision. |

| I still have my SJ33, but I also dislike OS4.
Now, about the ruggedness of the SJ33. It only took two short drops for my translucent cover to crack in half. This was with it closed, and falling on carpet, mind you. This was within the 2nd month of ownership.
I loved the way it felt in my hand. The curved bottom of the SJ33 really felt good. Sounds almost pornographic there doesn't it ! I mean, what is with this edged boxy look anyway?
One thing I love about the new TJ35 over the SJ is the speed. It just plain smokes the SJ33. Everything feels faster, especially my solitaire game. You know, the really important stuff.
I also love Aeroplayer. I'll go back to the old Sony player when you pry the stylus from my cold dead hands. Having said that though, I'm not sure that the TJ is as loud. I ride the lightrail into work everyday and it just doesn't seem to keep up with the background noise as well.
Two last thoughts. First, I compared my SJ33's display to the TJ35's and they seem to be the exact same brightness. Second, I'm REALLY pissed off that most of the peripherials for the SJ no longer fit the new models. My dock is useless and none of the add ons like the game controller or thumb keyboard fit. That wasn't exactly the most brilliant move on Son'y part IMHO.
Anyway, It's late and I'm rambling. Just my 2 cents.

| I looked at the TJs when they first came out and compared them both to my SJ33. I am not a power user, so OS4 is not a problem for me. I love the enhanced music, and the loudness of the speaker is definitely a strong suit of the SJ33.
In the end, I stuck with my SJ33...the orange color is exactly what I wanted from a cool factor, and with mP3 and the MS camera, it does what I need it to do.

| I just won a dark blue SJ33 on ebay. Should be arriving next monday. Can't wait! I didn't want to go with OS5 because I wanted to wait for a solid OS6 device.
