US/UK UX50 power..

Just about to order ux50..

Would the US version be fine over here in the UK..? It's considerably cheaper and some UK sites sell it here anyway..

I'm just thinking about the PSU etc.. Would i have to fork out for a UK one? Or even a different cradle?

Tanks in advance!

The USA model works fine in the UK - only the actual plug is different, which is easily resolved.

The thing putting me off buying a US model is that the warranty is with Sony US. I'd have to pay for shipping to the US if the unit is faulty.

I too got my UX50 sent from the States. After being sent around in telephonic circles a little by Sony here in UK, I've discovered this much: the UX50 would NOT need to be returned to the States for repair under warranty. I was told, however, that I'd need to register using the US URL (and I've found that the UK one doesn't accept the serial no. which is specific, it seems, to the States (and Canada?). However, the US site requires a US address. . . Also, I received no receipt with my Clie and can't seek repair here under warranty (even if I could register the thing) without one.

The hardware I received has been working perfectly for a month or so - I'm still hoping it won't malfunction. But I should try and chase up a receipt from the US, and clear up the registration problems with UK customer support (because surely I am entitled to the warranty even if the websites are spitting me out). Good luck! XXX

Oh, yes: the power supply (transformer) takes from 100 to 240v, so the UK (240v, as you know) is covered, as Unregistered says. I resolved the plug issue by replacing the plug-in cable on the *in* side of the power adaptor (it plugs into the adaptor with the typical *figure of eight* plug) with one with a UK plug on the other end. The replacement cable is a couple of metres - a metre longer than the one supplied - which was useful for me; but they come in all lengths.
