Smile Yippie! New battery works better!

I am happy to announce that my new replacement battery from amazon.com seems to be a huge improvement already.

I just fired 20 high-res, fine photos "with flash" and had plenty of juice left (86%). My old battery was lucky to get 3 shots with flash. The battery level barely dropped when I fired up the camera, I feel sooo happy.

I plan to start fresh tomorrow with a clean 128 MB MS and see how many flash shots I can get during the day...I'll try to remember to post my results.

Just in case people are wondering here is my battery info:

Old Battery:
33311
4-670-640-11
55 cycles
0 %

New Battery:
32191
4-670-640-11
1 cycle
0 %

One more thing: I let my new battery charge completely before using it, something that I didn't do on my old battery when I first got my NZ90...don't know if that has much to do with the improvement, but I thought it was something to note...

New battery

I charged my battery all night for the first charge and it lasts about the same as your old unit. I would be wary about buying a new one as I cannot be sure to get a good one. There maybe a whole lot of "duds" out there just waiting to be sold.

I was so disappointed with my old battery that I thought it was worth the $65 chance... The gamble paid off for me, I just hope that others will have the same success with new batteries. I'm happy with my NZ now, but still pissed off at the months I spent with a lame battery. I don't know how many times I was embarrased when showing my NZ camera function to a friend or co-worker only to be denied by the low battery warning...

I just wish SONY would recognize the problem and send out replacement batteries so people don't have to shell out $70 for a new battery. They could use a bill and credit RA process and charge people $80 (sony price) for the replacement battery then credit the customer's credit card account when the old battery is returned. SONY should also pursue some reimbursement from their battery supplier so all of the burden isn't on them.

My 2 cents,

Tbone

I just ordered a "sealed, new" battery off an eBay auction yesterday. I'm crossing my fingers that it's a "good" battery that will give me decent performance, but even if it doesn't, at least I'll have the spare battery that I can pop in to get a few more shots if I get the dreaded "low battery, shutting down flash" warning...

There was no way to see the serial number since the unit was still sealed in the display packaging, but I noticed that TTBone77's "new" battery has an older serial than his first one.

Please note also that I've shopped these things to death and gouldn't get a better deal than the $59 auction price plus $9 shipping...

Lap Tops For Less has a NZ90 replacement battery for $49, but it is highly suspect to me because even though they say it's a BP500, it's only 1000mA instead of 1200mA like the factory BP500. To me that means it doesn't have the same capacity:

Just a quick update on my new battery...

Took a bunch (70+) of photos today both with and without the flash without problems.

Also I just took 30 consective photos (after a complete charge) with flash and the battery bounced back up to 89% a couple of minutes after I turned off the camera. I seemed as though I could have taken a bunch more, however, I was getting sick of waiting for the camera to write the files to the MS.

I'm definitely satisfied with my NZ now...

Tony: you're right, I also thought it was strange that my "new" battery had an earlier serial number, however, everything seems good, for now...

Lightbulb Yippie! New battery works better!

I am glad you got lucky with the new battery. I hope that we can all make sense of all this battery issue.
I hope we can get enough people with bad batteries and be able to hit Sony with our results of obviously "Bad" batteries and be able to get replacements, I am also hoping to get at least 100 emails sent to Sony about this issue, I now have a contact at Sony, so now it’s a matter of waiting to get the 100 people to post on http://www.cliesource.com/forums/sh...93&pagenumber=3 about the "bad" batteries, and get response from Sony for replacements.

By the way, I used my NZ a bunch this morning and drained my new battery to about 50%. Then I decided to give the camera a try and see what would happen. Amazingly the camera fired up and I didn't even get the flash warning. I took a few flash photos no problem. I would have never got away with that on my original battery.

I really can't believe the difference in the two batteries I own... There are definetly some bad ones out there...

I am hoping that Sony stays with the current battery form factor for the next NZ so they continue to support it. I've noticed that our batteries (BP500s) aren't on the store shelves anymore. I'd really love to see a compatible 1500 mA replacement!

It's not stupid...

The NZ90 has a coin-cell backup battery. You can pop the rechargeable battery and load the new one without a problem: turn the unit off first.

I am curious to see if you have the same luck I have. I am considering getting a second replacement battery from amazon.com.

Don't forget to post your date code and serial number of your new battery...

Thanks,
Tbone

I have had a similar experience with my new battery. Great results. Now if I could get the digitizer fixed, I'd have the 'perfect' PDA (for me at least), and would even worry about an NZ90 replacement...

For me, coming from the original AA battery Palms and HandEra, replaceable batteries are essential.

Tony - AA batteries

I bought a $9 adapter that plugs into my NZ and uses 4 AA to supply power when I need it. I will be crossing my fingers and buying a replacement battery but I was so frustrated I bought the battery adapter.

It has worked quite well for me and eliminated much of my consternation with my Clie.
