Back in the old days of Byte Magazine, Jerry Pournelle used to have an "Apples and Onions" edition of his column. Apples were awards or nods to good products and services, Onions were the same to bad ones.

The past few days have made me want to do an Apples/Onions of my own, but being in professional publishing, I'd NEVER steal, but rather give credit to the original concept. So, I propose Blue Ribbons and Booby Prizes.

BLUE RIBBONS to Eruware tech support, John in particular, who tried to troubleshoot a particularly wierd problem, when my drivers stopped working after I reset during a hung "please wait" message.

BOOBY PRIZES to either the Astra game Ricochet, or Delkin Devices or whatever it was that caused the problem in the first place. I was playing Ricochet for the first time on a trial edition, and hit the HOME button to do something else in mid game. I got a Please Wait message that persisted for over five minutes. Doing a soft reset caused fatal alerts. After a hard reset and restore, everything worked but my CF card. Turned out that something had happened to the DELKIN DEVICES 256MB CF card in apparently hardware that not even formatting could help. Toast for Clie use.

BLUE RIBBONS to BackupMan, which made the hard reset painless by having a recently scheduled backup file ready to go.
