| hmm maybe i should record the serial on my UX.
However, i think this guy might be smarter than you think. actually im just saying he can be either way.
he can be stupid because you wont be able to charge/sync with out the cradle.
but maybe he is smarter than you think because he took it without regarding the cradle and charger. mayb he has one.
dont know just adding my opinion to this.
i too would like this guys address...
not that im going to do anything. :P

| barring all of the possibilites above, i think normally they would just do a hard reset (if they were smart enough) and get another power/cradle/sync cable. but that would be also be pretty dumb, as you'd lose whatever registered programs that came with it.
but you know most people who steal .. bulb sure ain't too bright up there.
thanks for reminding me to keep track of my own serial number. being dumb, the first thing i thought was to write it down inside the clie.
i guess we keep most our information inside it and depend on it that much ..

There's nothing wrong with writing down your serial number inside your clie... but of course you ought to make the memo a private record. But then what do you do when you lose your clie? Here's what I do - I first have my PDA backed up (via backupbuddyVFS) to my memory stick daily, but then once a week I perform the same backup but to a different memory stick that *always* is separate from my NZ.
So even if I lose (or get stolen) my NZ, all my valuable information is #1 still on my PC where I sync (including that private memo w/the serial #) and it's all on a memory stick.
Multiple backups are sooooo important (coming from a system administrator standpoint).

| Yeah thieves often times aren't too bright, but some are. A few years ago when having a pager was all the rage, my brother had his stolen from a next door neighbor that came over. One night he comes over and the next day my brother can't find his pager, low and behold, this neighbor comes over the next day and shows my brother "his" new pager. Real smart lol. |

| The situation sucks, but everybody has offered good ideas.
One thing that comes to my mind is how do you get it out of his hands and into yours? Have to maybe make up an excuse like when you see him with it, ask for all students will cellphones pagers and PDA's to put them on your desk as they disrupt the class and you see them being distracted.
That might be stupid, but even in college now I have a teacher that does that during tests. |

| Well, does this guy carry it to class with him? If not, you might need some ideas on how to get him to bring it. If he does carry it to class, do you have any classes with him? If you do, my idea would be to talk to the teacher. Tell him you suspect it is stolen, and that you want to see if it is by the serial number, and or information in the PDA etc.
As a last resort, I would go to the principle and tell him that you think it's been stolen, she losers her pda, next day he has one, highly suspicious. If he didn't steal it, he has nothing to worry about. |

| But you need some reason to get it in your hands and once it is exposed you are trying something you may never see it around again. So do it once and do it right |

| People were asking for the serial number of the PDA.
It can be found in the PDA in the launcher and select menu -> information.
The other way is to look at the back of the Clie, it has the serial number printed on it!
One thing which I have done - though it is pretty stupid is to open up the PDA and write your name on the shell of it. Usually, thieves don't bother taking these things apart because they fear breaking them. I opened mine up to clean out the fluff and dust!

| Bring it up to the authorities. If you strongly suspect this crook is in the same class, by all means, get the security/police to investigate. It won't make you look stupid, but it will scare the crap out of him, and hopefully getting you the NX70 back. |

I agree. Even without the serial number, all you have to do is to get the perp to say that the victim has never had "his" NX70V and then have the victim tell the authorities detailed information about that databases are loaded or the high scores on a game and you're home free.

Haahahahaha, halarious man. Well, first of all, I think hes kinda stupid to show anyone what he just stole. I mean, I would wanna use it, but i would fear bringing it around showing to people. Someone stole my cell phone, and I STRONGLY suspect who, I told my councellour, and i tried to tell they're parents but I could never prove the took it, although it was impossible it was anyone else. If I ever caught him with the same model phone, it would be pretty obvious, but he never did...
Well anyways, are there no marks on the outside of the case? If he lets you check it out... that doesnt seem so hard to match it up with your friends. If you do see the same preferences or apps on it, and your friend sees it, then its easy to confront him even if he denies it. Its pretty obvious after you have your clie for a while, its a part of you, you know whats yours. But I'm afraid of bringing my clie that I'm getting soon (NR70V) to highschool... that's where all the thieves are. I don't know how to show off without showing off lol, I just have a problem with showing off to everyone and they all go OHHHHHHH, and I'm always the one with teh best gadgets
Anywyas, I seriously hope you can get it back, I know what its like to lose something. If I ever figured out who stole my clie (if they ever did) I'D PUNCH THEM IN THE TESTICLES (assuming its a man, and if women, ovaries) | |
