| Address Book syncing problem Hello all,
Following a problem with AIM 1.1, (DataMrg.c errors caused a hard reset!) I've been unable to get my Clie (NX-60) to sync with the contents of the Palm Desktop Address Book contained on my PC.
The Hotsync log file claims that the Clie is full, so my 400+ contacts don't get copied over. (I have 5.2 MB available!)
Since it appears that the Address Book app has gotten "mixed up", I guess I'll have to do updates manually. A pain, but not the end of the world. Is there a way to get the contents of the Desktop app into a format that can be copied (via MSImport, beamed, etc.) into the Clie?
I've been able to recover most of my contact info from prior backups, (thank goodness for those!) but no Address Book files get updated during the Hotsync operation; other files, Date Book, To Dos, Adobe Reader, SplashMoney, etc. do sync properly.
Any thoughts/suggestions are appreciated. |

| After your hard reset, what did you restore from? The files in the desktop HotSync named backup folder maybe corrupted.
A memory full, usually is a sign the address book database is corrupted still on the Clie. The desktop backup is all too easily corrupted and never should be used. I always restore from my backups on my memory sticks, I never HoySync, until I am sure things are good.
So I need to know exactly how retored things and what you did after the hard reset?

| Thanks for your reply, Larry.
The backup is from my Memory Stick; dated May 31, 2003. It is missing approximately 100 names/addresses from my most current copy of the desktop version of the Palm Desktop application. My goal is to try and convert that file into a format that can be copied (via beaming or MSImport) to the Clie now that the Address Book appears to be corrupted...
Here's a copy of the error log that the Hotsync yields:
HotSync operation started 10/05/03 18:20:18
OK Date Book
-- Address Book
- Could not copy the following record to the handheld:
, , Havana Breeze's Secret Saturda
The memory in your handheld may be full. To check the available memory, select Menu/Info from the handheld's Application Launcher.
- Some PC records were not copied to the handheld. Your handheld may be full. To correct this situation, delete some records and perform a HotSync operation again.
Desktop = 440, Handheld = 325
Address Book synchronization failed
Thanks for your assistance,
Roger |

| I've achieved some degree of control over my Address Book. It appears that the Palm Desktop version did get "corrupted" and continued to fail to sync. I went through the entire list of entrees, cleaning up the category field which had reverted to "Unfiled" and it seemed to improve things to the degree that my Hotsync (via the cradle and via WiFi) appears to work flawlessly.
I've now made a backup of the "restored" system to a memory stick and all appears to functioning normally....Whew!

| Too late to really help of course, but when that sort of thing happens, provided you haven't made too many updates on the clie, you can just delete the addressbook DB on the clie using clie files or whatever and resync (be careful of which way the sync goes though )
Glad to hear you're back in action again though
