Hi Folks,
In another thread I got a lot of questions regarding how to set this up, so I thought I would post my findings here in a new thread so they wouldn't be buried deep in an unrelated thread.
I have a UX50, a nokia 6310i, and am in Ottawa with a ROgers AT&T Canada account.
There are a number of steps towards getting this to work (and these instructions are probably very similar for other providers & phones).
1. GPRS - can your phone connect?
First, check to ensure your phone can access the GPRS network and your account is enabled. Do this by browsing directly from your phone (ie forget about your clie for a sec). If you can do this, and get browsing to work on the phone, this step is done. If not, you need to phone your provider to get them to set this up for you. Settings are specific for each provider/phone combo. On the 6310i for Rogers AT&T: go to settings/GPRS modem settings. Then:
Active access point: Rogers Internet
2. Bluetooth - pairing your devices
Now you need to pair your two devices (the clie and the phone) through bluetooth. Here's how this is done:
On the phone:
- Turn on bluetooth. On the 6310i, go to menu item "Bluetooth", and turn it on in the first menu choice. You may also need to go down to "Bluetooth Settings" (still under bluetooth menu) and turn on My Phone's Visibility (set it to "shown to all").
On the clie:
GO to Preferences, Bluetooth.
-Enable it.
- Type in a device name (I chose "Palm").
- Allow device to be discovered: Yes
- Allow wakeup (doesn't matter - I have No)
Click "Trusted Devices".
Click "Add Device". You should see it search for devices, and then discover your phone. You should see it listed there. Highlight it, and click OK.
3. Now, for GPRS through the clie:
On the clie: (most of this is from:
http://www.vijaygill.com/awe.txt)
download and unzip
http://palm.www.conxion.co...Link_Update.zip
Note that this second url might change as conxion is just a hosting company hosting for palm.
2. Unzip phonelink and then click only on the 6310i.prc
You do NOT need to get anything else.
4. Sync and upload 6310i.prc to phone.
5. prefs, then connections
create a new connection, name it VTG (doesn't have to be VTG, but I am using it as an example)
Connect to: Local Network
Via: Bluetooth
Device: (Your phone)
click on details
speed should be 57,600 bps, flow ctl : automatic
click ok ok
6. Go to prefs and then network
Open the menu, create a new service. Call it whatever (I called it GPRS).
For Rogers AT&T Canada:
Username: wapuser1
Password: wap
Connection: vtg
7. click on details
Connection type: PPP
Idle Timeout: 1 minute (or whatever you want)
Query DNS is unchecked. This lets you add in the DNS's:
Primary: 207.181.101.4
Secondary: 207.181.101.5
IP Address Automatic is checked.
8. click on Script
Enter the following:
Send: atdt*99#
SendCR
End
Not for the Ericsson T68i, I think everything else is the same (new driver of course), except the 1st line above should be: Send: atdt*99***1# If it is the 1st connection in the phone. (Replace the 1 with whatever number is appropriate).
9. Ok, ok
10. Connect, should say initializing on the clie.
You can watch the bluetooth connection come up on the phone, then you should see the clie change to "Signing on" while the phone shows "Creating GPRS connection". At the end of this (when we reach "established" on the clie, you are online and should be able to surf!
Try netfront, verichat, cliemail, TuSSH, they should all work.
Happy to answer any questions.
