More reset problems

In recent weeks I had some reset problems, which seem to get worse. Yesterday, it failed to do a hard reset; sometimes my PDA switched itself off, sometimes several lines appeared on the screen. The only thing that worked was removing the batteries for a while; after that it did do a proper reset. Could that still be software related, or is that a hardware problem? Also warm resets did not work.

Which PDA is this?? considering you said you removed the batteries.
I've only seen problems like this with the Palm III series... and most likely is hardware related. I opened mine up, and unplugged and replugged the screen cable.
Also, have you put anything in flash memory (if it has it).
The only other possibilty is you messed up your ROM. If it's a an old Palm using a serial cradle you can reflash your ROM.

It's an SL10. Problems have become worse and worse; it seems to be an hardware problem. Most of the time it can't even do a hard reset, but if it manages, it crashes very quickly (even without any thrid party software).

It will be picked up by Sony next week for repair, I'm lucky that it is just within it's warranty period (I got it november last year). I always thought that any equipment would break down just AFTER the warrenty expired.....

If it can't be repaired I'll get a new one; I'm thinking about a TJ25 or Tungsten E. Alternatively, I might still get an SJ22 relatively cheap (altough PDA's are quite expensive here in the UK compared to the USA). Any thoughts on which would be better?

Are you me LOL

I have had exactly the same problem. I also got mine in november and dropped it back to Dixons last week with exactly the same symptoms.

Maybe the problem is meant to happen just after the warrenty expires but ours are faulty which is why it happened within the warrenty

As far as I am concerned it will be repaired or replaced as the hard reset should set it back to it's new state so that rules out 3rd party software.

It is very hard living without it, I can tell you

Giles

Interesting that you have the same problem with one that was also bought in November. A bad batch of SL10 PDAs? Let me know how Sony deals with the repair or replacement of your SL10. A courier will pick up mine today, and they promised to have it returned in 5-10 days.
