| Help make an OS5 version of TapPad a reality I received this letter from John Brochu, as a registered owner of TapPad. This is an instance where the members of the Clié community can show their support for an app that is so essential that it should be a part of the operating system! Quote:
Dear TapPad User:
I've been asked many times if and when I will have a version of TapPad
available for OS 5 devices such as the Palm Tungsten T and Sony Clié NX
(and now NZ) series. Although I am committed to developing an OS 5 version,
my current financial and time constraints do not permit me to do so at this
time. OS 5 does not permit hacks in any form, and it requires a complete
rewrite of TapPad as an application for it to work on the new OS. Until
circumstances change, I cannot afford to purchase a new device, nor spend
development time on a rather unknown market.
I have heard from many of you that TapPad is an essential tool for you and
many have even stated that they are waiting for an OS 5-ready version
before trading up to a new device. This is high praise indeed, and I myself
would feel quite lost without TapPad on my trusty Clié T615.
Brochu Software is, and has always been, a one man operation, from
conception, to development, to marketing and support. I've developed all
the software and web design that drives the TapPad web site and online
order form, as well as my other two major web sites - SiteLink.net and
MacNewz.com. If you're a Mac user, you may be familiar with these sites.
SiteLink has been online for more than six years now as a staple of the Mac
online community. All my income comes from these sources alone, so, as many
of you can relate, I need to appropriate my time and energy towards those
projects that are guaranteed to keep the money flowing in a positive
direction.
So, with that said, I'd like to offer this out to those that are
interested. If you'd like to offer a contribution to the TapPad for OS 5
development effort, it would be most appreciated, from as little as $5 to
whatever you feel is appropriate. Those that contribute will receive free
TapPad upgrades for life.
Rest assured an OS 5 version of TapPad WILL be developed. It's just a
question of how soon. Your generous support will bring it about much sooner
rather than later.
If you wish to contribute, you can make a payment in whatever amount you
feel is appropriate by placing an order online for the "TapPad Software
Upgrade" ($5 per item - as many items as you feel appropriate), or send a
check directly to me at the address below. Please make a note in the
comments referencing this email. If you send a check, it needs to be made
out to me personally - "John Brochu", not Brochu Software or TapPad.
Thank you for your attention and support. If you have any positive or
negative comments regarding this email, feel free to make them known. Just
reply or write me at <mailto:john@tappad.com>.
Best regards,
-John

| I got this as well. I'm using an OS 4.xx device. Tealmaster is supposed support hacks under OS5. I'm wondering if TapPad is working with TealMaster. It might be more cost effective to pursue this route initially, before rewriting TapPad as an app.

| I made a TapPad purchase from John to support this effort for a Palm OS 5 upgrade even though what I purchased will only work on my old T615, not my new NX73V yet...here's hoping! |
