Larry : Do you know where DataExport is installed on the PC ? Where can I find the installation LOG of setup.exe ?

Thanks

Hi denony

I have a European NZ90 which is happily using a 1G CF card patched using Pelaca's utility including Data Import so I can confirm that it does work. I followed the instructions as per trayip's Newbie post including downloading the MS Pro update via Clie UK web page.

The MS Export file I deleted from the PC was in \program files\sony\MS Export and I used add/remove programs in the control panel to do this. I've had a look for 'data export' on my PC without success and as such it probably not an application file as such, but I suggest you speak to Peleca to confirm this.

I don't know if Windows uses country specific drivers for the USB mass storage but I can confirm the driver on my XP machine as being 1.0.1215.5 file version 5.1.2600.1106

Sorry I couldn't be of more help

Hi,

ASC, thank you for your help.

I’ve check my drivers : Windows says that the version is : 1.0.1215.0 (not 1.0.1215.5) and on the Windows 2000 machine USBSTOR.SYS is 5.00.2138.1 (not 5.1.2600.1106). I'll check the version of USBSTOR.SYS on the Windows XP machine this evening.

Tray says that we have to uninstall Original MS Export on the PC. I don’t know if we must uninstall the Original Clié SCSI driver [size = 1.37 MB] (provided on the Sony CD) before install the Clié SCSI driver 1.0.1215.0 [size= 64 kB]. I’ve always uninstalled the Original SCSI driver before install the new ones.

Does anybody you know if the driver generate a log ? I’ve check the Windows Envent log, but I found nothing.

Thanks

Hi again denony

I didnt uninstall the Clie scsi driver prior to patching in the CF support and on rechecking the driver version I see I made a slight error and the number you quote 1.0.1215.0 is the same for me as well........sorry about that. I guess I should drink more coffee in the mornings!! I could not find any log files either by the way.

Leaving the data import to one side for a moment are the CF card(s) you have, recognised by the Clie (can you read them in Card Info program for instance?), or is the whole thing friar tucked?

Hi again ASC.

Thank you very much for you support

Yes, my Clié can browses, reads and writes the card perfectly. The Card Info Program (on the Clié) tells my card is a CF Card SDP SanDisk.

But DataImport doesn’t works at all. When I run DataImport on the Clié, Windows shows a drive letter for the CF Card, but when I click on the drive icon, Windows says : The Drive F: is not formattated. In my opinion, the SCSI driver fails. It cannot read the CF Card. By the way, it works fine with the MemoryStick.

Best Regards

Denony

My Windows XP system uses USBSTOR.SYS 5.1.2600.1106. It is the same version than ASC.

So why why why why DataImport / DataExport doesn't work ?

Installation on PC #5 :

1. Software installed on the Clié (MSPro drivers + CF storage hacked version):
- MSPRO_NZ90.PRC
-CFNULLinf.prc
-CFSlot.prc
- CFSlot_hack.prc
- CFStorageLib.prc
- CFUtilityEN.prc
- Data Import.prc

2. On the PC (Original Sony Software were installed).
a. Remove MSBackup
b. Reboot the computer
c. Install CF SCSI drivers 1.00.1215.0
d. Reboot the computer
c. Lanch DataImport on the Clié. Press Connect : The Windows tells it needs to install Sony USB mass storage (CF). I click next, Windows installs the drivers successfully.
e. Windows tells that my new device is ready.
f. I go to the Explorer, I click on F: (removable disc)
g. Windows tells "The drive F: is not formatted"

What's wrong ? Please.

THis time I haven't unistalled Original Clié SCSI drivers because ASC didn't uninstall them. On onthers PC, I had unistall them... But I get the same result.

Please, help me.

Thank

Denony.

Hello denony

On checking my Hotsync log file I do not appear to have CFSlot.prc on my Clie is this something to do with modem support and if it is then that's probably ok as I dont have a CF modem device I wouldnt expect to see this file? If however when running the CF utility you inadvertently selected the CF storage driver rather than CF storage drive (hacked) then perhaps this could be an issue?

The files below were Hotsynched to my clie

MSPro_NZ90.prc

CFNULLinf.prc
CFSlot_hack.prc
CFStorageLib.prc
CFUtilityEN.prc
Data Import.prc

Sounds like your PC has issues:

Quote: by LSALFORD

Removed ALL traces of the driver and reinstalled. Still no luck. Tried it on two different machines at work (Windows ME) with the same result.

Oh, well, at least my computer at home (Windows XP) recognizes the CF card with MSImport, but I'd sure like to get it to work at the office.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There is no easy fix:

The problem lies with hidden keys in the registry and hidden items in some folders. It still thinks the driver is installed when it basically is not.

Some have been successful by editing the registry.

Sony will tell you to completely reinstall the operating system.

Clashes with 6 in1 card readers, Zip drive drivers, some printres with built-in card readers, or the Sony driver itself got hosed!

Some have recently discovered that removing the PC's USB device controller and then let windows rebuild it, had solved the problem.

Denoy,

Please... delete the CFSlot.prc

Hi there,

Sorry, I’m wrong. Actually, the PRC files installed on my Clié are :

- MSPRO_NZ90.PRC
- CFNULLinf.prc
- CFSlot_hack.prc
- CFStorageLib.prc
- CFUtilityEN.prc
- Data Import.prc

CFSlot.prc is not installed.

Yesterday, I made another test :
I installed the Clié SCSI drivers (1.00.1215.0) on my PC (Windows 2000 SP2), hard-reseted my NZ90 and installed MSPRO_NZ90.PRC and Data Import.prc files only.

I launched DataImport on the Clié and press connect. Windows detected the Sony Storage (CF), etc and finally showed a drive letter for the CF Card : F: . I pressed F: and Windows told me : “There is no drive in F:” (or something like this). It didn’t tell me “The drive F: is not formatted”.

Then, I installed CFNULLinf.prc, - CFSlot_hack.prc, CFStorageLib.prc and CFUtilityEN.prc. I launched DataImport again and I pressed F: and Windows told me : “The drive F: is not formatted”. Wrong answer Mr Windows !

Do you thing there is a communication issue between MSPro Drivers and CF drivers ? Where can I find older version of the CF drivers (I get 1.0.7).

Larry : I’ve uninstalled completely the USB Controller. Windows has rebuilt it from scratch… Unfortunately… DataImport still doesn’t works.

Many Thanks for your help

Denony.

Are you positive that your CF Card is formatted to FAT and not FAT32??

Hi Larry.

Yes I am, When I plug the CF Card with a PCMCIA-CF adapter into my Laptop PC, it displays "FAT" when I click on the Win XP properties windows. Windows can read / write in the card perfectly.
I formatted the card(s) with the Clié's built-in Info. Card program.

Thanks,

Denony.

By the way : when the card is inserted into the Clié, when Windows displays The drive F : is not formatted, it asks if I want to format the drive. If I say Yes, it displays : The drive can’t be formatted.

I still need an answer to my question above? If it is formatted to FAT32 then you'll get the Drive "F" not formatted error again. I felt it necessary to go back to the beginning.
