Problems With Fellowes XT Keyboard

I tried to install the Fellowes XT keyboard today. My NX80 thinks the keyboard is the sync cradle. Nothing I've tried will get the Clie to recognize the keyboard and enable typing. Anybody have any ideas?

You might want to go into "Preferences," and look under "General." Make sure that "Beam Receive" is turned off. This usually solves the drive conflict.

As an aside, if this works for you, please keep us updated on your progress with the XT. Currently, I'm trying to decide between an XT and a Sony KB100 for my NX80, and would love to hear your comments. Right now, you can find some pretty nice deals on the XT for Clies, so I could save some money, as well as get a more compact unit in the process.

Tried Both Ways

Thanks, but I've tried it with both beam receive on and off and it doesn't seem to matter. Anybody have any other ideas? It's a perfect form factor for what I need, just can't get it working. Very frustrating.

Have you checked ThinkOutside's website for updated drivers?

-Adam

PS - C'mon XT users, help this guy out...

I installed the latest downloadable driver from the Fellowes site. Does that differ from Thinkoutsides?

To be honest, I don't know. Still, it wouldn't hurt to check ThinkOutside's site...

Okay, I've heard from tech support. Rather disappointing first round of suggestions: reinstall the driver (did that three times) do a soft reset (did that multiple times as well as hard reset and an attempt in safe mode) make sure nothing else is using the port (nothing is) and get this one, change the batteries. Battery on the NX80 is fully charged.

Still no function on the keyboard. Are there any Fellowes keyboard users out that with further suggestions on how to resolve this?

Got my KB100 late today finally. All I can say is it's great! Works beautifully and looks beautiful too! I highly recommend it!

Question

Can anyone help drrkw? Has anyone else encountered the same problem he's currently having? The only reason I'm so interested in this (aside from helping out a fellow Cliesource member, that is) is because I'd really prefer the XT over the KB100, but need to know beforehand that it's going to work. I also need to make a decision soon...

RK has pretty much covered the issues. If a hard reset has been done, no other apps loaded, but the keyboard driver, then it's one of two things, hardware, or the driver.

Also one of the keyboards other than the KB100 also had issues with powering, but I don't recall which one.

Adam: I don't know what else to add, sorry!

Okay, after extensive experimentation I have the damn thing working under these conditions:

- Beam receive on.
- Stay on in cradle off.
- Make sure NX80 is off when you put it on the keyboard and turn if off before you remove it.

So far it is working with these settings. Just had to fiddle and fiddle to find the right combination.

Man, what a pain. I wonder what's taking ThinkOutside so long with an updated driver...?

In any case, I'm glad to hear that you've got things working now.

Send a message via ICQ to Vince
Can someone give me a link to the Fellows XT keyboard and where to buy it, since I can't seem to find it on their site, and it's a ***** to navigate (IMHO).

Thanks

Vince

I've ordered the Xt keyboard from A Matter of Fax more than 2 weeks ago and no news yet (credit card has been charged the day I ordered it though... Should I call the cops ?) so I can't say if I'll get the same problems you had. Should I cancel my order and try to get the KB100 ? Would be a pain in the *** though since Sony Canada doesn't distribute it and sonystyle.com doesn't ship up north. Suggestions, anyone ?
