#1 | | Guest | Have NX80V, need external keyboard (does KB11 work???) Hi all,
I recently bought an NX80v and am loving it. I want an external keyboard and have been looking at the Sony KB11 and also ordered but will be returning the Fellowes Stowaway XT keyboard. What was wrong with the Stowaway XT, you ask? Well, even after I loaded up the driver (included w/ CD that came w/ keyboard and also same as most recent one from fellowes website), if I stopped typing for about 5 to 10 seconds, nothing would register and I'd have to turn the pda off and on again to get my typing to register again or disconnect and reconnect the pda to the keyboard again.
It's a pity since it's a nice keyboard (you can even charge while typing) and at first, I thought everything was fine--but then I realized that that's only if I type continuously and don't change applications or don't use any pull down menus!!! I e-mailed fellowes tech support and at least I've got to give this to them--they are prompt and admitted that I didn't get a lemon--this is what they are working on w/ their software developers to fix! So back it goes.
I was just wondering--anybody out there use the Sony KB11 keyboard or any other keyboard (e.g., belkin ???) with the NX80V successfully? Are there any problems as I encountered with the stowaway XT (does it still keep working if you change applications or use pull down menus, etc.)? Did you have to download any drivers or do any modifications to get it to work? Thanks in advance.

| Hi, I also bought the Fellows stowaway XT keyboard for my NX80v, and I found the exact same problem you have. In addition, I also found that the keyboard does not accept typing during charging. I tested the keyboard with a NX60, there was no such problems. I also contacted Fellows tech support and am still waiting for a fix (software update for the NX80v?).
I had a KB11 keyboard bought several months ago for my NR70v. The answer to your question about KB11 is, with the keyboard driver that comes with Fellows stowaway XT, it works, and did not have the problems like stowaway XT. No other modification necessary!
Gook luck. |

| Did you try turning on the beam receive? I've read there might be some problems with that.
Where did you purchase the stowaway? |

| Just out of curiosity, why are you guys using an external keyboard when the NX80 comes with a built-in keyboard? Admittedly, I haven't had my clie that long, but it seems quite capable. (Although I have to admit that I've found myself writing numbers using Graffiti instead of the keyboard because it's easier)
I'm all about ease-of-use. If an external keyboard is that much nicer, let me know and I'll get one! |

| Haved you looked at the new keyboard Sony just released - KB100? SonyStyle
It does appear to be NX compatible...
ON PDA keyboards are fine for quick messages, but If I'm typing a Long letter, taking notes, or actually word processing -- I'll take typing 50+ WPM on a full keyboard to a thumb/peck approach ANY day...

| SiouxChief,
The built in's are adequate for a few lines. You ever try writing something a bit longer? I don't have a notebook computer, so this is my portable unit. I was thinking it might be nice to invest in a keyboard so I could type things up away from my desktop and without an internet connection (which is majorly distracting). I also read eBooks and I think pressing enter might be easier than scroll or tapping the screen. Autoscroll also works, but I'm currently trying to limit my expenditures, so I'm not buying the full version of programs. Doing so would cost me quite a bit. |

| Freecia,
Good point...I guess when I replied last time I didn't realize you guys were referring to full-size keyboards (full-size in a relative sense, that is). I would definitely like one of these for more extended typing on the clie... |
