I'd assume with a pricedrop of $200 they're really hoping people will start to gain interest in purchasing.

True but like graison said, with notebook prices dropping, I don't think the unit itself can justify $1000 (even if it has built-in wifi and bluetooth).

I believe that the primary consideration for the UX-50 is lack of WiFi connectivity. It is not as widespread in Canada as it is in the US. The other reason is that a lot of people (including me) have bought the SJ33 as recently as 3 months ago-- the likelyhood of buying another PDA in the next 6 months are very low.
