#5 | | Guest | What's the difference between the Canadian and American versions of the UX50? If they're the same, we might as well buy them from SonyStyle.ca to get the cheaper price, right? | |

| Can you imagine shelling out $1000 for this instead of a laptop? I can't. Walt Mossberg on CNBC yesterday said it should be $500US, then it would sell like hotcakes.
mmmmmm, hotcakes |

| looks like Sony is finally realising that the US/Cdn exchange rate isn't THAT bad anymore, and are pricing the unit accordingly.
Still awfully pricey, but I'm happy with any price drop. |

| Also, with a pricedrop of $200 so soon, that sure implies that Sony had next to zero pre-orders for this thing (in Canada at least). I'd assume with a pricedrop of $200 they're really hoping people will start to gain interest in purchasing. |

True but like graison said, with notebook prices dropping, I don't think the unit itself can justify $1000 (even if it has built-in wifi and bluetooth). |

| Sony probably just realize that people no longer will stand for limited versatility devices. Why not have both landscape and portrait option, more memory, better camera.

| Okay, maybe I'm missing something, but by my calculations (ala www.xe.com) $999.99 in Canadian dollars is about $718 US dollars, which is still more than the $699 price on the US SonyStyle website. How is it a better deal to order from the Canadian site? Besides the 32MB MS offer, which is barely worth the $18 difference in price...
If I'm stupid and missing something, please tell me =)
Cheers!

| There is still no sign of the UX series here in the UK though, let alone a price drop already! :-( |

| There are several reasons, one of which may be the price, for the alleged lack of interest in Canada in the UX-50.
I believe that the primary consideration for the UX-50 is lack of WiFi connectivity. It is not as widespread in Canada as it is in the US.
The other reason is that a lot of people (including me) have bought the SJ33 as recently as 3 months ago-- the likelyhood of buying another PDA in the next 6 months are very low.
I predict that the UX-40 will be more popular than the UX-50, in Canada at least. |
