| Diet MP3 - In case you didn't know/forgot Dietmp3 is a shareware windows app that lets you compress your mp3s into varying levels of quality and speed. At "CD quality" an entire meg is shaved off of most mp3 files.
Grab it here.

| Nope, its not VBR. It does something with lowering bitrate wihout much loss in quality. And there is a special output to palms with mp3 capability (it even shows a picture of a clie).
And yes, I've tried it on my NX70 and all songs work.

| Hmmm...just tried the demo...didn't like it... It simply encoded the MP3s into 96kbs... and the loss in sound quality from 128 to 96 kbs was huge in my opinion, even though I chose the "CD Quality" and the "Clie" option...and I found that the output file remains at 96kbs no even if I chose the "IPod" or "Other Mp3 Player" and other settings at CD Quality... the songs may work, but doesn't sound nice on the Clie...

| And there are already dozens of applications that can do that. The dbPowerAmp music converter can do it--I used it all the time to downgrade MP3 voice-only files down to 32kbs.

| I use MusicMatch Jukebox. It does VBR, though I never use it. It'll do any bitrate you want, in stereo or mono...
It's most useful feature, to me, is to be able to tell it how many hours of music I want, what albums or genres I want, and then have it put together a playlist of those tracks... http://www.musicmatch.com/
