| SJ22 or SJ33?? ...or T625C Hi All
I'm thinking of buying either the SJ22 or 33. In the UK there's now only a 20 pounds ($32 US) difference. I guess for many I should just go for the SJ33 without much deliberation. But I'm not interested in the mp3 facilities or photoviewing etc. I will primarily use it for basic PIM diary functions and extensive text input/note-taking.
I have a few questions about the superiority of the SJ33:
1. does the SJ33 have a shorter battery life? Battery life is a MAJOR factor for me.
2. the SJ33 is a little heavier and thicker than the SJ22, is this noticeable when carrying it around? (I haven't yet looked at both models). SIZE/WEIGHT is also my other important factor
3. is the battery a lithium polymer compared with a lithium ion for the SJ22? (The polymer are the latest technology and don't have any memory effect as far as understand, and neither do they need to be sometimes fully discharged. In fact, it's better keeping them topped up). Anyway, is the difference in the batteries significant? and are they both internal?
4. would the faster processor on the SJ33 make a difference given my use of the pda?
5. I don't like the flip type covers on either model. Can both be removed? On the SJ33, it doesn't seem to look good without the cover
5. any other major differences that should affect my choice?
Which one should I buy??
thanx!

| The color in the SJ33 makes documents really easy to see.

| I have the SJ-30, which is essentially similar to the SJ-22. I use it for the same functions as you do, and I love it. I rarely listen to music, so the MP3 feature is a non-starter for me. That is a big part of the SJ-33. The faster processor means a faster read and write time on the MS, which would be nice given the fact I have several docs that are a hundred pages each. They take several seconds to load and save. Using them however is just as fast as a short doc, they are in memory so there is no slowdown.
My 2 cents is judge whether or not you need or want the MP3 and the video watching abilities. The faster processor makes a huge difference there, otherwise.... wordprocessing and spreadsheets are fine.
The SJ-22 is color as well, so don't worry about the person who hinted it is B/W.

| SJ22 weighs 4.9 oz. It's small, some say the grafitti area is too small IF you are upgrade from a Palm III/Visor which has huge graffiti areas. It's something psychological
SJ33 weighs 6.1 oz. It scratches easily and is bulky
Also, the SJ33 has a faster processor, but it uses more battery power to run. So the enhanced battery life in SJ33 doesn't matter.....since SJ22 uses less electricity with its smaller battery. They're about equal in battery usage. |

| I appreciate the feedback!
I've just found out the T625C retails at a similar price to the SJ22/33. It is v. light, slim, has an aluminium shell, and has the same processsor as the SJ22.
But I've read a few reviews saying that the battery life isn't great. Does anyone know how battery life would compare with the SJ22?
thanx again

#7 | | Guest | Correct - Battery life on the 625 is not as good. Also the screen is not as good either

#8 | | Guest | SJ33, No Question I bought a Clie to replace my much-beloved, super-reliable, no-frills Palm V. I'd have kept that Palm V forever but after over 4 yrs of daily use it wasn't holding a charge very long and the screen was getting increasingly less sensitive to the stylus.
I comparison shopped like crazy and settled on the Clie SJ line, intending to purchase the basic, non-color model. Like you, I didn't want or need an MP3 player, movie player, etc. But I did want AND need some kind of hard case or built-in cover to protect the screen since I carry my PDA in my purse. The leather flip-over screen covers on all the lower-level SJs wouldn't do for me, since they don't snap down into place and would just get pushed aside by other stuff in my purse---exposing the screen to damage. The SJ33 is the least expensive SJ that has a built-in hard cover, and where I was shopping it was going to cost about $50 more than the black-and-white model I'd intended to buy. When I realized I'd have to spend nearly $50 to buy a hard case for the cheaper SJ anyway, it was a no-brainer to go for the SJ33.
Now that I have the SJ33, I really appreciate the much greater visibility the color screen affords. Plus, since both my Palm V and the SJ33 have Palm OS 4.1, getting the data out of my Palm and into my Clie was a snap.

| It's a different world running a Sony.
I didn't understand until I got one.
Something most Palm owners really need to know.

| i think SJ-33 because of the flip cover, which will protect your screen better

| I had a T665, which I inadvertantly killed, I replaced it with a SJ33. I've had it since July 10th and have been happy with it. |

#12 | | Guest | I purchased my SJ33 less than a week ago at Best Buy for $219 + tax. (Best Buy also gave me six months of MSN free) I love the little machine indoor and outdoor.

| I'm still blown away by the display. Even in the sun, it's great.
I have a feeling there will be more Sony converts around me now.
I feel bad for pointing them at Palm handhelds now, but they can upgrade too, just like I did!
Seeing (and hearing) is believing!

| Interesting feedback!
Looks like the SJ33 is the more popular choice (for obvious reasons).
Although I found out in the UK, that the difference between the 22 and 33 is actually around $60 USD (not 30 as I previously read).
I finally managed to have a look at both machines and was duly impressed. At one time before a palm OS convert, I was looking at the over-hyped ipaq 1910. While it too has an excellent, slightly larger screen and seriously light-weight, there was just something insubstantial about it - apart from the dismal battery life! Too much like a cold business machine. The SJs, with their curvy retro(?) looks and feel are a work of art in comparison.
After due deliberation, I've finally decided on the SJ22 mainly because I don't need the added functionality (and size) of the 33. Even though it's a lot sleeker than I expected.
One question though around the screen protection. I really like the 22 plush protector which can be folded back, unlike the clam shell which sticks out when using the 33. Has anyone damaged their 22 screen because of the supposedly inadequate screen protection? I would store mine either in my inside jacket pocket (and not in my trousers, if you've been following the other thread!), or in a pocket flap in my bag.
regards
