First and foremost, I am do not have any affiliations with CIC. I am a regular poster on CLIESource.
Many would have noticed the news about Palm licensing "Graffitti 2" from CIC, which is effectively licensing out "Jot". I had a look at the CIC website
and there was a promotion going on.
You can purchase any three programs for USD$39.99
. So I ended up registering for Jot ($39.00), Signature Wallet ($24.99) and Word Complete ($24.99). It didn't take a rocket scientist to work out the savings ... thank goodness!!!
A total of USD$89.98 worth of software!
The downside, not everything is OS5 ready. According to the website, Jot is OS5 ready. The others are soon to follow... Jot
is the new graffiti replacement. It is more intuitive than graffiti and I am having to unlearn some habits learnt from graffiti! But you can disable Jots graffiti method and revert back to "good ol' graffiti". The other nice thing about Jot is that it combines MiddleCapsHack and NewPen (or it's major features) all into one. MiddleCapsHack allows you to capitalise by crossing the border between alpha and numeric. NewPen allowing you to write graffiti on the main view screen (also, being able to echo what you wrote). Jot also has a tutorial and several customisable letters (such as 't', 'y' etc). WordComplete
is like TextPlus - while you are writing words in, it pops up a small window so you can auto-complete the word without having to write out the remaining letters. I had been evaluating TextPlus and WordComplete and both were almost the same. TextPlus is slightly better than WordComplete in customisation, but this is not a great loss of functionality.
Finally, Signature Wallet
combines a secure/encrypted area to put your sensitive information (PINs, accounts etc), but also can double as a locking mechanism such as TealLock or EasyLock. SigWallet is not as well featured as TealLock, but a bit more complex than EasyLock. The device can be unlocked by either a password method (at least 5 charaters) or using your signature (which is not half bad in terms of character recognition!).
For those in overseas countries like France, UK, Spain etc, you can substite the Signature Wallet for supplementary lexicons (valued at $9.99).
Okay, enough rambling for now...
