#1 | | Guest | problem with BT and T68i i am having problem getting my nx70v and my sony t68i phone to talk to each other. i have searched the forum and don't see anyone with this particular problem.
first I am using the updated bluetooth drivers..the light does come on. i even got the pda and phone to be trusted devices of each other (enter passkey and everything). i tried the phone driver from the various threads...but i don't not see a "phone" type in the connections menu on the clie...i did get the clie to dial my isp phone number, but it does not connect and finally gives me an error that no service provider or bad cable error...can't get sms to work either using funsms v3.5
any other ideas i can try? | |

| I just configured my NX80 and T68i via BT last night. It took a while and a lot of forum and Google searches, and some trial and error, but I got it.
First of all I thought I had all the drivers, but I had to download some OS5 BT phone drivers from Palm's website (I found it in the knowledge base) -- these are totally separate from the Sony MS drivers needed for the stick to work in OS5. I had already linked my devices before downloading this stuff, the only problem was that when the Clie would try to dial the phone, the phone would say "lost bluetooth connection" or the Clie would give some kind of serial error. I guess I needed the additional palm phone drivers (you have to install a bunch of files, and then the driver for your particular model). I don't have a "phone" option in my connections menu either, which I thought was a bad thing, but I use "modem" and it still works.
I have AT&T, and these are my settings, in Connections I have:
Name: T68i (user definable)
Connect to: Modem
Via: Bluetooth (if you don't have this option, you're missing drivers)
Device: KPT68i (the name of my phone)
Dialing: Touch Tone
Volume: Low
In details...
Speed: 115,200
Flow ctl: automatic
Init String: ATZ
Then in Network:
Service: Windows RAS
User name: blank
Password: blank (says prompt)
Connection: T68i (the name I gave my connection above)
Phone: *99***1#
In details...
Connection type: PPP
Idle Timeout: Never
Query DNS: checked
IP Address Automatic checked
This uses the T68i's default settings, so you don't have to change anything on the phone. I'm not sure how to configure it for other services.
I hope this helps. I was going crazy for a while. I thought I'd have to use infrared forever. But the hardware is definitely capable of it. Good luck! |

| The first time I was setting up my bluetooth ms I used the t68 drivers but I found out I needed to use the t68i driver. Make sure you are using the correct one I think the t68 is 15kb and the t68i is 16kb.
Cheers |

OK, looking through my browser history, I found it. I had been doing so many searches before I stumbled on the link, I didn't even notice it was on Palm's British site, which might be part of why you couldn't find it. This is the link: http://www-5.palm.com/uk/support/tt_plu.html
It's intended for the Tungsten, called Phone Link Update. As I said, there's a whole bunch of .prc and .pdb files to install, and then you pick one of the drivers (and it is for the T68i, not the old T68). Hope this solves your problem. |

| I am in the same boat with you guys, except the phone that I am using is a Sony Ericsson T610. I have spent hours trying to get my Clie to access the internet and email, over Bluetooth to a GPRS phone.
My Clie NV70X and my T610 can talk over Bluetooth and are set up as trusted devices to each other.
I can get the Palm to use the phone's GPRS service via Infra-red for both email and web (NetFront) access. So the communication settings are OK.
But, as soon as I switch the Network panel to Bluetooth, and try to connect the panel says "dialing ..." and then, after one retry, I get a message: "Error: Serial : line error (0x0306)". About half way through this process, the phone displays "Bluetooth connection lost".
I have downloaded the latest "BluesCafe.zip" Bluetooth drivers from www.css.ap.sony.com, done a hard reset and installed the new drivers.
I have tried to install PhoneLink from Palm but it wont run - message says that it only runs on Palm hardware. It does not include a driver for the T610 yet anyway.
I don't know what else to try.
Any suggestions? |

| This is something simple and a shot it the dark but have you tried linking the device with the phone first? I had a problem setting mine up because I was trying to pair initially from my clie first but then I read on another thread they suggesting pairing from the phone and it worked.
Just a suggestion.
Hope it helps |

| Who is your wireless phone service provider, and did you buy your phone from the provider? |

| I fixed my problem a couple of days ago.
Here is what worked for me:
Pair the two devices - doesn't matter which one first. Then, on the phone, swicth off "discovery mode" in the BT options. Then the GPRS connection over BT works fine - for me.
There is a known bug in the way the T68i and the T610 use the discovery mode in Bluetooth and this is the workaround until the firmware is updated.
Just remember, if you later need to pair the phone with some other device to switch discovery back on, pair the device and then switch it back off again.
Actually, there is no such thing as a T68i driver for Palm. These are just settings files for various telco operators. If you know the settnigs that your telco needs for GPRS, you can just set them in the Clie preference panels by yourself. No driver required...

| pwalker, are you saying that all those pdb libraries that are installed with the Phone Link update aren't necessary? Like you I discovered that the Phone Link.prc won't work, so I guess I can delete all this stuff? |

| Yes, they are not necessary. I don't have any of them on my Clie and it is working fine, accessing the internet, POP mail and WAP through Bluetooth to the phone and then GPRS to the WWW.
I don't know much about PhoneLink but I do believe that it is an application to help users set up the Network prefs panel. Those pdf files contain the GPRS settings for all the known networks for each country and all the settings for the known handsets (some handsets require complex log-in scripts - but not the T68i or T610).
So, if you know the Network panel settings for your phone and your GPRS network provider, you don't need Phone Link or any of its files.

| Peter,
Can you advise on your config!
I have the NX70V with the latest BT drivers and a T610 with GPRS
I have just called a friend by setting his number up as a modem.
But I want to access the GPRS.
Thanks
