LINKSYS 54g wireless router INFO!!!!

I work in Computers and Wireless at Best Buy. I deal with this problem daily since the 54g was released.

I am not sure if you all have figured this out yet but the problem with the 54g is the internal firmware..

Its not possible to use with the clie until Linksys releases a firmware upgrade which they tell me is soon. They say withing the next 2-3 months the 54g with have it in them and the download will be available within that same time frame.

This info came direct from a memo that the Linksys rep had in our store a few days ago.

I have talked to them many time on the phone but I have seen the actual proof now.....

Bare with it cause if you have used the 54g with a laptop yet and seen the potential Its a very nice system to be running.

Hope this helped if you didnt already know about this....

The memo also said this was with all CF wireless modems but I have only had the Clie owners asking me what the deal is. Not sure about the Others

Keep in mind, the WiFi card must be 802.11g to reach the 54mps bandwidth. As of now, the Sony card is only 802.11b, which is limited to 11mbs so using it with a 802.11g base station will only get you 11mbs bandwidth.

If you can wait 3-4 months.... Or just save yourself around $40 and buy a Linksys BEFW11S4. See http://www.cliesource.com/forums/sh...1&highlight=54g

One user reported this a week or so ago, the the 54G needed a firmware update, after speaking with Linksys. This isn't the first time a piece of Linksys equipment needed a firmware update to work with the Clie.
