However, the point I was making is that the lithium-ion polymer batteries don't have any memory effect, so if your initial charge is a half charge (or any other percentage), then you play with it for awhile, then do a full charge, it will last just as long as if you had done a full charge initially. In other words, the amount of time that a battery lasts isn't diminished by doing a partial charge initially, as happens with Nickel-cadium batteries. |
You're right it has not the memory-effect the nickel-cadmium (nicd) or nickel-metal-hybrid (nimh) has. But most people don't know, that the li-ion and li-ion-polymer batteries are some of the most sensible batteries on the market. They retain theyr long life and overadvantage power only whend they are maintained properly. For theyr maintenance it's important to charge until the end and until the light goes off as much as possible.
They have other side effects which are not memory-effect but which effect the overall life. For ex. the amount of discharage-cycles until you have to exchange (that's when they only recharge up to 80 % [showing 100 % but falling down much quicker for ex.]) the battery is for li-ion about 300 when you do deep discharges. It's 1000 when you do shallow discharges (discharge not under 80 %). For the slim-designed li-ion-polymer The cycles are only about the half!
However, if you are one of the clie-users which get's every 6 months a new device, you won't remark that. But the one whom you will sell your old devices will probably do ;-) |

| Is there a way to move just the address, datebook, memo and todo list items to the new handheld? I went from NR70 to NX80 but just hotsynced to make the transfer. I would like to set aside the above files and reset the NX80 to default and then add the 4 databases and then my programs.
Is this possible. And any simple instructions. I want to completely wipe the old software off my computer also and install the new, for a clean install. |

First, make a backup of your HotSync folder on the desktop, until you are all done, just in case.
If you still have the NR70, then you can just beam your databases to the NX80 directly. If not, then after you make the previously mentioned backup copy of your HotSync folder, delete the files in the backup folder under the HotSync name on the desktop PC. Set all your conduits, esp the ones you want to keep, to desktop overrides the handheld. Otherwise, you will wipe out the databases you want to keep. After you do your clean install on the desktop PC, you will do just the opposite initially for the handheld to override the desktop PC. When finished HotSyncing, then you can put everything back to synchronize.
After you are all done, then wait a couple of days to delete the backup copy you made of the PC's HotSync folder.
Enjoy your new Clie!!!

| So let me get this straight, when I get my NX73, I can charge it for 30min...play around w/ it and then give it a full charge and it won't make any difference on the life of the battery than it would to just give it a full charge out of the box??? |

| Supposedly you should initially leave it in the cradle charging for the first four hours. I played with mine, but never took it off charge, with no ill effects on any of my Clies!

Won't this restore all my files?? I don't want anything from my backup except address, memo, date-book and to-do list.
How do I know I am not reinstalling programs that I want off, i.e old hacks etc. I don't know all there silly file names
Thanks |

If you remove the HotSync Name backup folder as you said you were going to do, then why would it reinstall the old files? If you DO NOT change the conduits at least for the four databases that you want to keep, then you will do nothing but wipe the desktop PC db folders clean! The four db's are in their own folders, just erase the backup folder only, not the whole thing under Sony Handheld. It would not hurt to make a backup of the whole Sony Handheld folder first, just in case.
I hope that helps!

| NX Supported CF Cards: Supported CF Cards:
So far all CF Memory cards work! Only the IBM Microdrive is read only, due to it's high power requirements that make it unstable in write operations.
Go here for a current list of supported modems: http://snow.prohosting.com/cfutil/
For WiFi: Only the Sony PEGA-WL100 or PEGA-WL110 work!!!
GPS, Bluetooth, and GPRS compact flash cards currently do NOT work in the Clie. The reason is that there are no drivers, due to Sony's proprietary API's.
Okay, that should basically cover it all!
