| Please convince me not to. I am craving the New Ipaq 2215. I dont know why, I just am.
There is great software for the PPC such as TextMaker which is a FULL featured word processor, and other stuff.
I dont know why I am wanting it. Help me!
Seriousley, can someone please convince me that I shouldnt, I mean I like my NX and all, but that Ipaq is sure cool! |

| You've got an NX, which is currently one of the greatest devices around. Trust me.
It's just not time yet to purchase another device, not Palm, not PPC.
So, it should be relatively easy to wait until the end of the year, when PalmOS6 will be released which is based on beOS. So then you can still decide what you like better POS or PPC.
It's just too early!

| badandy I was in the same boat as you the other night. I read some reviews on the hp and nearly ordered it online but decided to wait until i could go to fry's and check it out. When i went there and used it it was definately nice, but then I started playing with the nx73. After that the hp never even crossed my mind again. Despite already owning an nx70v, i couldn't resist the new nx, so i'm now $500 poorer, but at least i get a new toy to play with. |

| lol. I guess I'll wait, but really I am sick with the lack of Palm OS MS Office compatibility. It is sick. Even QO Premier doesnt stack up. |

| I guess I'm the only one, but I have no use for a program which tries to display tables and everything on a 320x240 screen. It sure looks nice on a screenshot, but try to work with it and you get a totally different impression. Believe me, I've done some interface work for PDA apps. I prefer the Wordsmith route: Leave out everything that's not needed on HS and reinsert it during backup. But I write exclusively on my Clié anyway, so I don't care about Win2Palm conversion anyway.

| That's what Wordsmith can do on a 160x160 screen. And it has support for HR+ !
Just compare the amount of information in these two images:
WS - LR - Small Font
WS - HR - (Too) Large Font
TS - LR - (Too) Large Font
Take away all the menu bars and you can see that the PPC working area is only slightly larger the the working area of WS on 160x160!
Also text isn't antialiased on PPC and what probably fooled you: The demo page for TM contains a nice image which takes up most of the screen. It sure is nice, but what it shows has nothig to do with what the program can do, it only shows how good the artists emploied by the company are!

| hmmm. thanx,
I really would probably quit whining (lol) if there was something like Transcriber for Palm OS. I mean, our handhelds are almost as Powerful as current gen PPC's and definately better than old ones, so why cant we get a transcriber/calligrapher type thing on our Clie.
If anyone is interested, I could start a petition and email it to the makers of Calligrapher or another known software company to urge them to make something for Palm OS that is similar. |

| Please help,
I too am also interested in the HP 2215. I have been interested in other features as well.
I have been frustrated at the lack of usable memory in the equivalent clies. What I have been hoping for would be a non-clamshell clie with more than 11MB's of available memory, longer battery life, mp3,voice recorder, and maybe Wi-Fi or Virtual Graffiti
My T-615 never had great battery life but recently has been getting worse. I have been considering either the Zire 71 or the HP 2215. |

| I'm in the exact same situation as you guys. My N760 is dying, and Sony's current lineup is sub-par.
A refurb T665 is the only Clie I'd be interested in, but the hardware is already outdated. I can get a Zire71 for almost the same price as the refurb T665 after Palm's trade-in deal, but it still doesn't offer the 320x480 non-clamshell screen I've been waiting for from Palm or Sony.
I've been a PalmOS user and supporter for 4 years now, and never even considered switching to PocketPC until I saw the HP 2215 today.
It's just about the size of my N760, and aside from the OS, infinitely better than any Clie released to date. No mediocre camera, no thumbboard, no hinged-on flip cover, no swivel-screen or slider or any kind. Basically, no gimmicks, just a good mix of form and functionality. That's what's wrong with the entire PalmOS camp now...cramming new "features" into every new device, but not releasing an OS5 320x480 tablet model everyone on these boards seems to want. I wouldn't be suprised if more people on these boards start settling for 240x320 if Palm and Sony don't get their act together soon.

| Heh heh hehh the ultimate debate, PPC Vs Palm OS. I have switched twice to PPC from Palm OS and Twice I got so aggravated over and over that I am keeping Palm from now on. When HP 1910 came out I fell in love with it in the store and bought it on impulse. When I tried using the text entry, I found myself correcting it too many times. I found that for any simple function I wanted the PPC to perform, an application with a hefty price tagshad to be bought to do it...from a simple program that puts an X on the top right hand of the screen to shut down a program, to programs to back everything up, to 3rd party games and PIM Software. The PIM functions were awful and extemely unreliable almost having me miss 2 meetings when I had it.
My favorite is when people compare memory and processor speed on the 2 units. You can get 64 Megs on a PPC and almost fill it all up with 2 or 3 large apps. Keep in mind that PPC programs are memory hogs, they have higher memory available but programs take up all that memory to run. PPC also slows down considerably and very noticeably when you run programs, I have yet to run into a program that slows down my Palm units that much where it actually gets annoying. And lets not forget one other thing....battery life! At the end of the day, just using PIM functions, my PPC's were at 50% battery no matter what, I have went many days without having to charge any Palm unit with normal use, and if you bring up the spare battery that the new units are allowing, do you really want to have to switch the battery twice a day? That adds to the point of being unreliable. I would also like to mention that when you install programs on a Pocket PC, if you don't like the program good luck completely removing it. One example was Pocket Informant, I tried it and wasn't impressed with it. I tried removing it and all programs it had with it, some programs wouldn't delete, they stuck it in there, taking 2 megs to do nothing. What killed me was this was the case with 5 programs, they would stick something in the programs that wouldn't let me completely remove it, I had almost 20 megs of space from programs I couldnt use at that point, or remove. Then when doing a Hard Reset, I had to install one program at a time so that I could keep the deleted program out completely. It was like erasing your PC hard drive and re-installing all of your programs, now let it happen 3 times in 2 weeks because of system slow downs and crashes. I quickly returned it and appreciating the simplicity purchased another Palm. Last thing was the live synch with the PC and the back and forth navigation through the PPC and desktop. I had to dig and dig to find certain programs to bring them up to the desktop so I didn't have to go through 2-3 screens to locate and run it, and then found I had to buy another program to allow shortcuts on the desktop. I found I would have to purchase all this software to bring the PPC up to Par with the convenience and ahem....simplicity of the Palm. It's ultimately your money and your decision, many people will battle all my points which is fine....they call it an opinion for a reason, but I made the mistake twice, I won't make it again. If all the decision is base on is a Word Processing program, Wordsmith really does work great....if you are looking to get THAT detailed.....I'd get a laptop. It all depends on if you don't mind taking months to learn the difficult user interface of the PPC, or minutes to learn Palm OS....good luck with whatever you decide....and if you choose to go to PPC....you'll be back, heh heh hehhhh

| I just got my 2215 after using my NX for a long time.
I couldn't be happier. This thing is so fast, I can play REAL mpeg movies w/o conversion and still get over 20fps-this is video that is optimized for a computer mind you. I can also play SNES games-thats right SNES not NES games at 20-35 fps. This thing is awesome. Sure, the resolution isn't as good, but this unit makes up for in the colors of the screen, the brightness, and just the wow factor of the device. It is just so small yet it packs in an OPTIMIZED 400mhz Xscale processor with teh 200mhz bus, 57mb usable ram, 3 mb of flash rom to use, as well as the 32 ROM for the OS. Its an amazing device. If you have a choice, run away from sony, as they are WAY to proprietary. I can use SD, CF, even MEMORY STICKS as there are MS-->CF adaptors.
NOW IS THE TIME TO MAKE THE SWITCH TO PPC.
~~**I am not trying to flame. I have had multiple devices with both OSes and I favor the PPC or the WINDOWS MOBILE devices more**~~ |

PPC comes with Block recognizer, keyboard, character recognizer, and Transcriber. I'm sure that ppl will find one of the four that they can use. Quote: |

Close out programs as well as adding more info to the status bar-free. Icbar and Wisbar. Not only do they add the Close functionality (which should have been inherently coded into the OS) but also battery/memory meter, shortcut buttons, time/date, and volume control to name a few. Quote: |

Ahh, the beauty of multitasking. PPCs can have multiple programs open at one time. Obviously, this will diminish performance after a while theoretically. However, when I have PIM programs open as well as word/excel, I notice NO lag at all. I only notice lag when I have SNES open at the same time as some other functions. Quote: |

My battery life on my 2215 is FAR superior to my old NX70v. Many users are reporting that this unit is able to go 2.5 to 3.5 hours with CONSTANT WIFI USE. Definitely better than the 1.5 that some NX users were lucky to see. I have gone over 4 hrs on my ipaq with 52% battery life remaining-while playing MP3s, watching divx movies (yes REAL divx movies, as well as mpeg and avi, oh and don't forget the PPC supports Ogg Vorbis for music...) Poor battery life? Look at the NX and the NZ-now thats horrible battery life. Also, the new PXA255 processors are really battery friendly-they are supposed to use something like 30% less battery power than their previous incarnation, teh PXA250. Quote: |

PPC comes with a real file explorer-all you have to do is go into windows folder and delete the files. This isn't a hard thing to do. Quote: |

Why would you run a program through ActiveSync??? However, I can see the whole PPC from my desktop/laptop. Not JUST the MS. Quote: |

An opinion is yours to make However, I've now owned 4 PPCs (Casio EM500, Ipaq 3835, Dell Axim Basic, and currently an HP 2215) and 3 PalmOS devices (HS Visor, clie Nr70, clie NX70v) and I can't be happier with the PPC. Sure, it can be buggier, and it takes 1 more tap to get into your PIM functions (out of the box-lots of STABLE freeware out there that minimizes this, and don't forget the awesome TODAY screen) but it is so much more powerful. I read this on another board and it goes something like this. What has more problems, a bicycle or a car? Thats right the more complex one does. The price of features.
Pls people, I am not trying to flame, I am just giving valid constructive argument to this. I in no way shape or form am trying to start a flame war, but healthy argument can be fun. So please keep in mind that these are just handhelds and nothing more. |
