| I think just estimated filesize is ok. For quality index, I have no such concept... Of course, this maybe useful for others.
And... "Restore Defaults" button isn't too small? |

| I don't want people to hit it accidently. The quality index concept is aimed at novice users.

| looks like your convertion tool is getting better & better, so is it still under development? or ready for download?
I like the index concept, makes things much more user friendly.

| The version you see is still in development. However, tomorrow and tuesday there will be final exams, so not much time to work on it. You can probably expect the release of V2 at the end of next week.

| Well done Hans, the new version looks like its gonna be even better!
Just thought id let you know of a few more video bitrates you could use, i've tried a few of them, they are all ok!
I've tried a multiple of 216 (the standard 'normal quality' setting) and that worked fine. I've tried 72, 108, and 144, so it might be possible to use others multiples like 54 and lower/higher than what i've tried.
Would be nice to see these included in the next version aswell because its always better to have more settings to use!
Thanks for the good job Hans, keep us posted! |

| Will do so. Did you test 96k audio? Think I'll have to get rid of that!
BTW:
Here are a few samples with custom IC options, so the rest of you can see what it's all about :
The first and second samples are at 64kbit (32+32), so it's about half the size per minute then your average MP3 (meaning that 1 hour of clips in this format will be about 30 MB).
The first one uses a VERY low framerate, to provide high picture quality even at this datarate. It's also in 320x240 instead of the Sony default of 160x112 for LOW. Sometimes movement isn't very important or you really want to do a slideshow. That's when settings like these are best. http://hansschmucker.free.fr/clie/P...2.32.2.HR.M.MOV
The second sample has the priority on movement. The picture quality isn't very good but the movie is at fluid as it gets. And all this at still 30MB per hour: http://hansschmucker.free.fr/clie/P....32.15.LR.M.MOV
The third example doubles the data rate (making it exactly as big as a standard MP3), so one hour is now about 60MB (So you can still still fit a whole movie on your MS: It has improved sound quality that is almost as good as standard MP3 as well as improved video quality at a medium frame rate (7 pictures per second) http://hansschmucker.free.fr/clie/P...4.64.8.LR.S.MOV

| Does anyone think it would be useful for the NR series Clie. In other words would it be useful to get the MQV file from this tool and then use Kinoma to get it to PDB format? Just curoius if you think it is worth it..... |

| Yes. Kinoma actually can't handle MPEG4 AVI (except MAC version), MQV (QuickTime MPEG4) can be processed by Kinoma Producer. It can help you save your HDD space (as intermediate file MQV is small in size).
But it takes quite long time to convert, maybe simply to use other video editing softwares to convert to other format is faster. |

Hope you do well in your exams! Nice that you have prioritization on what is more important.
You'll have good results in your exams.

| Bettter use MJPEG AVIs. It's fast and offers better quality control then imageconverter (even with my tool) and can be read by QT natively
Pegasus ( http://www.pegasusimaging.com/picvideomjpeg.htm ) used to give away free licences. Sadly, they don't do this anymore. http://www.mainconcept.com has a very nice codec as well, but it isn't free either.
If you work a lot with DivX files, you can use the free 3ivx.com de-/encoder for QT. It's pretty good, but with many AVI's, you will have to convert the sound, since it's often WMV. If the video works, but there's no sound when being played in QT, you will have to recompress the sound. Use virtualdub.net to do this.
On other news: I JUST PASSED MY FINAL EXAMS (ABITUR)!!!! (And I'm a bit drunk right now, so bear with me)

| That means if using 3ivx.com decoder for QT, Kinoma Producer can convert DivX AVI directly?
It's great to hear your good news... |

| No i haven't tried that setting yet! I dont tend to go above 64kbps, dont think there is any need, it sounds good enough on my clie at that bitrate, besides its only played through headphones/internal speaker! I take it by what your saying it doesnt work? I will try later anyway, also try lots more video settings, will post results when i know them!
Well done on passing your exams, had mine a while back, i hate them!
Catch you later |

| Hans, i tried those settings out.
All the video settings work great! I've tried 36, 54, 72, 108, and 144 kbps all with NO problems
But, on the other hand, tried a few audio settings, and no luck
Tried 56, 96, 112, and others, ALL FAILED!
Seems like the 3 you have already are the only 3 that will work.
Wheras video bitrates, well it looks like there are plenty of them! I will keep toying around to find some more if possible!
Oh, and btw, i think the new version looks great, love the projected file size calc. and the reset button, all goes towards making a great program!
Cya.
skccs:
To convert .MQV (NX videos) to MPEG/Quicktime/AVI buy Quicktime 6 Pro from www.apple.com/quicktime
Then just open the MQV in Quicktime, go file>export and choose what you want it to export to, voila! |
