| Hacking the NX73 CF Driver - day 3 ================================================
Hacking the NX73 CF Driver - day 3
Getting along with the EruWare driver.
Assuming you own the EruWare driver and the NX73 driver.
Sometimes you will want to use one or the other.
NOTE: this is a hack/tweek to let you quickly swap drivers you already own. You must have obtained the NX73 driver from somewhere, and have purchased the EruWare driver.
This is not a CRACK !
My terminology:
'Hacks = good'. Hacks extend the functionalty of software you have/own.
'Cracks = bad'. Cracks typically bypass copy protection techniques, like registration codes, and aid in stealing software
--------------------------------------
Installation:
I will assume you can install the EruWare driver on your own.
If you install it with HotSync, it will reset immediately. When it resets, immediately follow the "Enable EruWare driver" instructions below and press the reset button yourself. Do this before entering your registration code and trying to mount a card.
TIP: enter your CLIE specific registration code you got from EruWare into a memo, so you can copy/paste it in to re-register.
--------------------------------------
Swapping between drivers:
The trick you learned earlier to disable a driver before deleting it can be used to keep both drivers in RAM.
Only one driver must be active at a time.
'CFSlot' = the NX73 driver (vanilla from CFSlot.prc or 3-bit hack from CFSlot_MS.prc)
'CFSlotDrvr' = the EruWare driver
The trick is to change the 'Type' of the drivers using Filez
The one you want to use should be type 'libs'.
The one you don't want to use should be type 'libx' (or another bogus type).
When you press the reset button, the driver with the 'libs' type will be used.
Don't worry, if you make a mistake (and have both drivers active at the same time), just remove the card from the CF slot, reset the CLIE and try again.
Remember to always press the "Save" button in Filez.
--------------------------------------
Enable EruWare driver:
Run Filez. Select the 'PalmCard' and press "View and Edit Files".
Scroll down until you see "CFSlot". Press "Details". Change the "Type" from 'libs' to 'libx'. Press the "Save" button (this is very important).
Scroll down until you see "CFSlotDrvr". Press "Details". If the Type is already 'libs', you don't have to do anything. Otherwise change the Type from 'libx' to 'libs'. Press the "Save" button.
Press the reset button (a soft reset). At this point the Sony driver is disabled and the EruWare one is enabled.
You need to turn on your EruWare driver options using the EruWare "CF Utility", like you do after every reset.
The first time after a hard-reset or a re-install you will have to enter your registration code.
NOTE: process may change in future if/when settings become more 'sticky'
--------------------------------------
Enable NX73 driver:
Run Filez. Select the 'PalmCard' and press "View and Edit Files".
Scroll down until you see "CFSlotDrvr". Press "Details". Change the Type from 'libs' to 'libx'. Press the "Save" button.
Scroll down until you see "CFSlot". Press "Details". Change the Type from 'libx' to 'libs'. Press the "Save" button.
Press the reset button (a soft reset). At this point the EruWare driver is disabled and the Sony one is enabled.
BTW: if you run the EruWare utility, it will complain about bad registration code and report a bogus driver version. That is to be expected since the driver is disabled. Don't worry, you don't have to re-enter the registration code code when you swap back.
--------------------------------------
HotSync:
If you restore a backup of the EruWare drivers with HotSync, you should run through the "Enable EruWare driver" step (just like the first time install)
Battery:
I have no idea on how the Sony CF driver (used in this swapped case) handles idle power drain. I recommend removing CF cards from the CLIE when not in use.

Thanks to a discovery originally made by Eddy, there will be a part 4 to this series:
Part 4 - how to enable Audio Player to play MP3s from CF
(using the 3-bit hacked driver)

| Pleaaaseee Hi Guy!
Thank you for your informations.
But, when I try to change libs to libx Filez told me:
"This file is ROM-based and cannot be modified or deleted !!!!"
Please help me !!!
I've purchased the ERUWARE driver and I have the european version of the NX73V... |

back to your file error, did you try unchecking the read only attributes? But be careful whatever you do (*at your own risk)
This Hack was intensionally for the NX70/NZs to use the driver from the NX73, so the original NX73 file is only resident in RAM for NX70/NZ users. In your case, it's a true NX73, therefore that specific file might be in ROM and not changable. Not sure if I'm correct about this... but make sense.
Hope to hear your reply though.

| Eruware CF driver works on the NX73V
You might want to check this thread out, assuming that you want to make use of Eruware's driver on your NX73 Euro. version. Quote: Originally poste by wuff on the link above! Basically we did the "trick" CliePet suggested on his other posts, i.e. to install the NX70V's CF Slot driver (which doesn't support CF memory cards) to the NX73V's RAM to disable/nullify the NX73V's native driver. |

| no problem, can't wait until your thoughts about the use of the Eruware Driver on the NX73, oh by the way, you'd need to request for a new registration code from Eruware, since the code is hardware generated, so if you have a new CLIE, the Eruware Driver will generate a new ID code, then you'll need to seek Eruware about the new registration code for your new NX73.
Assuming you're a pre-existing user of Eruware's driver, they'll help you generate a new registration key.

#15 | | Guest | Forgive the possibly "newbie" question but...
What does the EruWare driver offer me that I might want to switch back and forth... or for that matter the NX73 one? I.E. What would be a practical situation in which I would want to enable one drive over the other or alternate?
Thanks! | |
