| How fast (or slow) is your current Launcher? I know over half Palm users here are using ZL as there default launcher right now, and I know most of us think ZL is the most powerfull and customizable Launcher in the market.. And I also know that still many of us are using other launchers like LX, ML, Clie Launcher, or even just the default launchers come with the PDAs.
Here now I don't want to compare how many features about the launchers you are using, I just want to see how fast or slow is your current LAUNCHERs?
How to compare?
Just run several default PIM apps like the Databook, ToDo, Address and Memo app come in ROM, and exit from them to the Launchers you are using, and record the average time it takes the Launcher to finish loading (all buttons, toolbars and app icons have been shown).
Conditions: no CPU overclock, all the up tool bar and bottom tool bar have to be shown, at least 9 apps in the current Launcher window/tab.
After testing, it'll be great if you could provide the following:
1. the PDA model
2. the launcher you are using
3. how many apps in your current launcher tab/window
4. the average time for the launcher to finish loading
I'm posting my result here first:
1. Sony SJ30
2. LX
3. 12 apps in the current tab
4. 0.7 sec average time for LX to finish loading (almost instant)
I have ZL installed also, the result is about 4.2 sec for ZL to finish
loading, which is pretty slower than LX.
What's your results here? Thanks for any input.
Cheers! |

| It's best if the test was separated for OS4 and OS5 Clies. ZL on my NX is blink of the eye quick, so in OS5 it's basically a non-issue. It all depends too on whether one is running a background image and if it is HiRes + and 65K color vs 256 color. The point is there can be a few variables that can skew the results.
BTW I have 126 apps in my launcher screen.
On the NX, I can't really say any launcher is slow and I would image it would be similar with the NZ90 and TG50

| Using ZL on an NR, I find the delay somewhat annoying. I'll probably get an NX80, and that's one of the biggest improvements I'm looking forward to with the new hardware.
As for my ZL tests:
VG up: To my main tab, 14 icons: 2.75 sec
To my "All" tab, 86 icons: 3.05 sec
VG down: To my main tab, 14 icons: 2.90 sec
To my "All" tab, 86 icons: 3.20 sec
Of course ZL being so customizable there are almost an infinite number of variations people might have that affect the results. I have text shadow, high density, and zoom turned off on the icons, for example. I also use a simple background, and 65K colors.
Glad to hear from the OS5 people that it's speedier!
Edit: Forgot to mention I don't have autosync on.

| Yea, even with a background image in ZL I never see that please wait dialogue. It loads seemingly instantly.
In fact the the only time I have ever seen the please wait dialogue is when changing skins and even then not even long enough to read the words, if you didn't know what they already said, and if I start zlauncher from the default launcher. |

Hmm, that's pretty fast. Guess we OS 4 user will have to swtich to OS5 ones to enjoy the beauties of apps like ZL. But for LX, I think there is no big difference no matter you are using an OS5 or OS4. That's probably the best part for LX than ZL. |

| alistar,
It, perhaps, could be because you might not have the 'Auto sync /Palm Launcher/' option turned on in the ZL PREFERENCES? I have mine turned on... and it seems to show up.... (for about 1/10 of a second) each time I exit an application and go back to the ZLauncher 'desktop' area. |

#7 | | Guest | LauncherX is fater for me... I'm a registered owner of ML, SilverScreen (although the current version is CRAP compared to LX or ML or ZL) and LauncherX. I've also tried ZLauncher extensively and I have found that on my NR70, the fastest by a considerable margin is LauncherX, followed by ZLauncher and then MegaLauncher.
I'm hoping that IF a ML update comes out in July, that it is faster than the current 4.3. Also, I hope to see a new version of LauncherX in either July or August. That would be GREAT (I know that the developers are working on it). | |

Don't hold your breath, the development of LX is nonexistent.

| I know its not full screen, but CRS Launcher is instant (it's 27k!). That's why I use it. |

But for me, CRS Launcher is slower than either LX or the default launcher. Mainly is becuse that I use V3bhack to display hi-density OS5 app icons on my SJ30, which slows down CrsLauncher. LX is much faster. |
