Help for those who can't make bluetooth web access work
Hi All,
I have just purchased my TG50 recently after I found a really good deal from dell to get it for ~$230. I also bought the Dlink dongle together, which is a class 2 bluetooth device matched perfectly to the TG50.
I started by reading post and articles from web to collect ideas on how people get it working. Then picked the simplest one to implement -- using ICS on XP. My network setup is like the following
lnternet -- Dlink DI604 router -- My desktop computer with Windows XP -- Dlink bluetooth dongle -- TG50
First of all, I installed the Dlink bluetooth driver and get both devices talk to each other with bluetooth trusted link. This part is fairly easy so I will skip the detail. After this you have to get the XP to share the internet access to other network interface on your computer. In this case it is the bluetooth connection which is created by bluetooth driver installation.
First problem come into place, I am getting that failure message said ICS can't be setup... took me some time to figure that XP is using 192.168.0.1 for ICS setup, so I log into the router setup and change the subnet to anything else but 192.168.0.1. e.g. 192.168.1.1. After that I can enable ICS on my computer. After a reboot you should see the ip address on your bluetooth connection changed to "192.168.0.1" Now go back to the TG50 and create a network profile with bluetooth connection created previously with no username, no password, empty script, ppp, ip and dns auto assign.
Click on connect.... Wow... it connects... and if you go menu -> log.
You should see your ip address as 192.168.0.101
It seems like you are trying to setup ip and dns manually... I did that before I can setup my ICS. It wouldn't help... even though it says it connected. The internet applications would not work.
To setup ICS:
1) make sure you have your bluetooth network connection setup by the bluetooth driver/programs.
2) go to you ethernet card network connection -> properties -> advanced. Check on the internet connection sharing checkbox.
Click ok and then reboot your machine. You will not see ICS option if you don't have a second network connection. ie the bluetooth network connection.
3) double check on the status of the bluetooth network connection and you should see it is using ip address as 192.168.0.1 which it previously was not.
4) now you can setup you lovely TG50 to connect to it and it should work like a breeze!!!
