| Install Old Clie on 'Puter with Windows 7? Hi all,
I have an old beater Clie SJ22 that I've used for years and would like to use until it wears out. When I put the original installation disc into my new Windows 7 computer, and click on the install.exe, I get an error message that reads: "The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you neede an x86 (32 bit) or an x64 (64 bit) version of the program and then contact the software publisher."
My new computer is a Dell Studio XPS 7100 and has a folder called Program Files (x86), so I suppose it will run 32 bit.
I wasn't able to find any help at the Sony or Palm sites.
Does anyone know if and how I can install my beater on my new computer, or is this the final last gasp?
Thank you much. |

| It will not work, the last supported Operating System was Windows XP.
May be you can use some kind of wirtualization software like WMWarePlayer in order to virtualize a complete Windows 2000/XP system where you can sync the device via USB.

| I believe there is an xp emulation for windows 7 but the 64 bit computer will necessitate either getting an IR or bluetooth to Hotsync.
Be happy to settle with moving programs via a card reader....

No, you don't have to give up on the handheld.
Like you, I'm irrationally devoted to my SJ22. After I moved from Win2kPro to Win7Pro 32-bit I had to install twice (first one bugged out on me). Installation worked when I went through the prompts/process of seeking compatibility with earlier versions of Windows.
BTW, this will not work no matter what (so don't bother trying to install it): Sony Clie utility for Memory Stick Export to PC.
The program runs fine in "compatibility" mode -- just be sure you save your old data files separately before you begin the process.
Note: There is one problem with the calendar -- Palm desktop 4 (comes w/SJ22) won't export the whold calendar file usefully if you want to save it in another program. You'd have to use desktop 6.2.2 and try a Pimlico solution. However, I have not tried this because I don't know if desktop 6.2.2 will work with the Clie. |

| Quick update.
There is now a driver that works for old clie's on win7 64bit. Available at: http://www.aceeca.com/downloads/index.php/cPath/1
Tested with Palm Desktop 4.1 (came on my nx70V cd), works perfectly. Calendar, todo's, all fine.
Only thing I cant get to go is the msimport stuff for the internal clie memory. Can use an external card reader obviously, but cant get at the inside stuff, as win7 wants a PEG mass storage driver which doesnt exist for this version of windows. (seemingly.)
Still. Can use it natively now for 90% of the stuff. |

| I have an NZ 90 running Palm Desktop v4.1, with an HP laptop running Windows 7 Ultimate. Could you walk me through this? I have a Windowx XP Virtual Machine going, but it's not recognizing either the NZ 90 drivers, nor the suggested ones from aceeca that were recommended. Heck, at this point I'd even be happy to try IR or Bluetooth...if someone would let me know the best way to get these two machines to talk!
Grealy appreciate any assistance!!! |
