| Can you still get a GPS for the TX? Before things are totally dried up for my TX, can I get a GPS receiver? I'd like the serial kind so I don't have to charge two devices, but if there is a BT device that's inexpensive, I might try that. Does Spectec still have those SD powered Bluetooth GPS devices?
thx
P.S.
In a year or maybe less, I 'might' be persuaded to swap my Palms for an Android tablet, provided it has WiFi and GPS capabilities.

| The short answer is yes - go to e-bay and type in holux gps and you'll have many to choose from fairly cheap.
You don't say which mapping program you want to use, Garmin XT, TomTom Navigator 6, viaMichelin 4, or whatever, (these are the last s/w versions shown to work on a TX) so it is difficult to advise further.
I have had good success with TomTom set to "other GPS" and a 32 channel bluetooth Holux receiver. You have to use UDMH to boost the useable cache available on the Tx and clear it down regularly with something like Off Flush or it locks up occasionally and requires a soft reboot with the reset button on the back (This is why TT Navigator 6 was never officially "supported" for the Tx despite working fine from a 2Gb SD card).
I also use Warpspeed to overclock the application to 624MHz from the default 312 which makes it a bit of a battery hog so a car charger is recommended for journey times of 4 hours and up.
I find it a tad slower than my daughters PND version taking 90 seconds to 2 minutes to lock onto the satellites and download the Ephemeral Data needed to tell it my location of a morning and plot a short route (8 miles).
Good luck and let us know what you end up doing or if you need such advice as we can give.

| I'm using Mapopolis. I need to transfer everything to the TX because the TE seems to be getting weak, no VFS.
thx

| I see there are a bunch of holux gps receivers on eBay, but none of them advertise to use the Palm universal serial connector, as on the TX. Which holux gps receiver were you thinking would work on the TX with Mapopolis?

| Hi again
I was really thinking of something like the Holux M1000 or Holox BT321 which are bluetooth and will need charging once a week. I don't think using Mapopolis will give any problems connecting if it works with your existing kit.
If you want a cradle type mounting, a touch more expensive, but try the Palm GPS Car Kit 3224NA from Amazon or the Carcomm powered PDA mount. Both are still available and compatible with a Tx. If you run across it, the Kirrio mount is useable but you will need the viaMichelin drivers for Palm loaded into the Mapopolis directory.
Off car GPS "companions" like the old Magellen can still be picked up on e-bay or Amazon from time to time.
Ciao

| I'm pretty sure that these are bluetooth versions also. To be honest, I remember reading about a connector for using a serial based gps with the Palm TX, but didn't remember any in theory, like there was for the Palm Vx. I have a GPSlim240, and the only bad thing is trying to remember where I left the tiny thing at when I'm actually going to need it!
Oh, the 3224NA model can be had for $30 on ebay, so that's really not a bad option - just a little awkward if you were going to go geocaching or something!!! Quote: | Originally Posted by martinloat Hi again
