| Clie Mail And SMTP Server Talk I have yahoo mail, and I pay for pop access. I am connecting to my laptop with blue tooth and sharing the internet connection(with my tg50). I was able to connect to yahoo and download my mail no problem. When it came to sending my mail, I could not do it using the yahoo smtp server. Apparently you have to have to alow relay on your smtp server for the clie to sent throught it.
There really hasnt been a solution posted on here as to how to fix this problem other than to get another mail client.
The way that I got around this problem is I installed IIS5. If you have Windows XP or 2000 PRO installed on your workstation (you will also need the I386 folder of the media) Just goto add remove programs. Add Internet Information Services. Click on detail and make sure SMTP Service is checked. Then install it.. it will ask for the I386 folder, just point to the cd or where you saved the folder. after it is installed goto control panels/administrative toos/Internet information services and from the IIS applet right click on Default SMTP Virtual Server.
On the general tab make sure th IP address is set to the internal network interface (only if you wanna stop spammers and you dont have a fire wall. Other wise just make sure its on "all unassigned". Click on the access tab, and click on relay then click on "all except the list below" and BAM IT works
If you need help just email me the_war_zone@yahoo.com

Not at all. One of my SMTP server uses SMTP Authentication which ClieMail happily works with. Another other only lets you send if you've recently checked, and the third validates the 'from' address. All work great! I believe you are dealing with a limitation of yahoo mail and/or your ISP. |

Possibly
Im not an SMTP Guru All I know is ... SMTP does not work for yahoo with clie mail .. so I installed a local smtp server (IIS5) and enabled realy and it worked .. so maybe those three servers you tried had realy enabled.. and yahoo doesnt. Who knows

| Yahoo mail does not offer SMTP at all. I think this explains your dilemna. You have installed an SMTP server on your desktop, which replaces Yahoo's lack of one. Might it just be easier to use your ISP's SMTP server? That will work in 99% of cases. |

| Yahoo does offer SMTP. If you sign up for POP access you get access to the Yahoo SMTP sever. I have been send and reciving email solely through Yahoo for over a yeah now.(with out look) I have never had to use my ISP's SMTP server.

Come on man give me some credit here! I would not have been tryign to send my email throgh a non-existant SMTP server. LOL I dont have a delema anymore...

| No problem .. Its hard to tell sometimes.. some people come in these forums to bash other people
this is what i see when i go into my pop access settings from yahoo.
"POP Access Settings Close Window
In order to read your Yahoo! Mail an external email client (such as Eudora, Outlook, Netscape, etc.), you will need to configure the Incoming (POP) and Outgoing (SMTP) server settings so that it can send and receive messages from your Yahoo! Mail account. Generally, you can find these settings under the Tools or Preferences menus for your particular email program.
Important: Do not delete your incoming mail settings
If you are already receiving mail from another mail server (such as incoming mail to your address at your ISP), you will need to add a new POP account. Sometimes this is called a new "profile," sometimes a new "personality," depending on your email client. If your email client only allows you to receive mail from one POP server at a time, make sure you write down your current settings before you replace them with Yahoo! Mail settings so that you can change them back if you need to. Below you will find the server settings for accessing your Yahoo! Mail.
Server Settings
Incoming Mail Server (POP3) pop.mail.yahoo.com
Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): smtp.mail.yahoo.com
or your ISP's SMTP server address [What's this?]
Account Name/Username: the_war_zone
Email address: the_war_zone@yahoo.com
Password: Your Yahoo! Mail password
We've given directions below for configuring POP access to Yahoo! Mail for selected email clients. Your client may not be on this list, and server settings vary from client to client. Remember, even after you configure your mail client to send and receive Yahoo! Mail messages, you can always log in to your Yahoo! Mail account to send and receive as well. "

| OK, that helps heaps. Three questions if I may:
1. Are you trying to send mail from someon@differentdomain.com through your smtp.mail.yahoo.com?
2. Have you attempted using the server authentication protocol for sending mail in CLIE Mail (a.k.a. SMTP AUTH).
3. Which upgraded plan offers this (I'm interested ) |

>>>no.. im sending it from the_war_zone@yahoo.com
2. Have you attempted using the server authentication protocol for sending mail in CLIE Mail (a.k.a. SMTP AUTH).
>>> Yes. Becuase when I use outlook it wont send unless i have SMTP authentication on. But I have tried all 3 setting.. SMTP AUTH , POP First, and NONE
3. Which upgraded plan offers this (I'm interested ) |
>>>POP and forwarding Upgrade plan. 25$ for a year is a good price... I heard talk that you can get the upgrade free if you register for yahoo, under the UK and not USA

Why not try www.myrealbox.com instead? You get 10MB storage, free webmail, POP3, IMAP, SMTP (+SMTP AUTH) and everything over SSL if needed.
You can define a list of filters that allow you to selectively file or forward your mail.
I fail to understand what's so great about Yahoo and Hotmail that people are prepared to pay for it...

Don't go telling everyone about it LOL
I agree though that Myrealbox gives me everything I need - just need to find a way of getting the Clie to Receive/send rather than send/receive so the server can authenticate me before I send an email. The IMAP4 / POP3 client on my Siemens S55 phone seems to manage that perfectly well.

Yeah, maybe I should've kept it a secret. OTOH, this is a small group...
I have bought a copy of Snappermail which supports SMTP-AUTH (never even tried Clie Mail), so that solves the SMTP problem. Snapper is a good quality mail program which will support IMAP in version 2 (a biggy for me). If many TG50 users use myrealbox they might give it a higher priority ;-)
I'll let out another 'secret': IMAP is just perfect for us PDA users, because of the remote folders and the way you can selectively load headers, bodies & attachments.
SMTP has given me so much aggro in the past while on the move, I've set up my own SMTP/AUTH server which even does authentication on clients that don't support it (like my old Nokia 9210). No problems since...

I like the look of snappermail but, although it solves the smtp-auth problem, there are still things it wont do like syncronise with my desktop, do IMAP, read HTML etc. Seems a lot of money for something so limited so think I'll wait for a future version. |
