| Is anyone still using the TX? I just wrote a very long post about recently getting interested in the TX after it seems everyone else has jumped ship. Then when I tried to submit it my login disappeared and I lost all the text I had written.
So, the short version is: I think the TX is an amazing device for those who don't mind carrying two gadgets, a phone in one pocket and a PDA with Wifi in the other. I still don't see the point in a smartphone when the internet connection costs $360 a yr, over $1,000 in 3 years.
Is there anyone out there still using the TX for its superior display, content, and composition features? I don't want to be the Lone Ranger. |

| Hi there
Yes, there are still quite a few of us TX owners around, and for the reasons you mention. http://www.1src.com/forums/showthre...ight=martinloat
Although with Palm putting themselves up for sale because of the Pre not doing as well as hoped; sites like this one are going to be really important in providing support for all of us users of "older" Palms like the TX and Lifedrive.
Also people like Chris Short who provide a decent repair service will be even more in demand.
Don't worry too much if all appears a bit quiet at the moment, enough of the old hands (from a year ago?? ) drop in periodically so any help you need will be available...it'll just take a day or two.

| I use it. My wife has been using hers for quite a longer time than I have. I've chosen to use my Palm IIIx (upgraded) until I lost the serial port on my computer. I decided it was worth it to upgrade (to a refurb, I'd have preferred new), and haven't really regretted it. Upgrading to Windows 7 64-bit I did regret, as the only way to sync a TX is in 64-bit is via BlueTooth. Which then takes forever, especially on the initial sync and the 2GB memory card I've got shoved in it... But it's shorter now. Until I redo everything that's on that card. |

| Thanks for feedback Thanks to both of you, and from such distant shores, England and Jacksonville, Fla. Guess I'm a bit lucky actually that I still have Windows XP. Synching works great.
I do wonder that the Palm Portal for the Web couldn't be a little more versatile. As I understand, there are no more updates for it, and several of its links are now dysfunctional.
Best regards to everyone, and I intend to stick with this device for a while.

| The biggest issue going forward is that there are fewer public wifi hotspots that use 802.11B.
I'm in a bit of a bind even at home now. It's hard to find a router that will do both B and N simultaneously and I want to upgrade to a new GigE router with wireless N.

| WRT610N: dual band. I set it up as 802.11n with 40 MHz-wide channels in the 5GHz band and 802.11b/g with 200 MHz-wide channels in the 2.4 GHz band.

| I'm using mine too. ebooks (plucker, eReader, PalmPDF) calendar (DateBk6), Memos, Contacts, chess (Chess Tiger), SMS (MobileSMS) and Bible reading and reference (Palm Bible+, GMP Soft BibleWithYou and Olive Tree Bible Reader).
Not for very much longer though. Bought a SmartQ V5 the other day; it should arrive in a week. I so hope it can match the TX. Why on earth did Palm stop making these marvelous machines? |

| I still have my original TX and recently bought another second-hand - but in great shape. I have a lot of gadgets, but my TX still "WOWs" me. It does exactly what I need it to without a lot of bloat. It is easily tailored for my needs via quality single purpose apps. The screen looks great and is a perfect size vs. portability. It has excellent speed and responsiveness. Despite all this, I will probably allow my TXs to die a natural death and not replace the batteries. As was mentioned, syncing (and app Windows compatibility) is a greater issue with each new MS OS and my beloved TX is becoming as much a burden as it is a joy. |

I only pull my TX and its two clones ( backup units from when I thought I couldn't exist if the TX ever went away) out of the drawer once in a while to charge them up and see if they work. Without fail I gawk at the displays and wish my Treo 755p looked like that!
When running my T3 though its paces I always have to do a bit of Graffiti (v1). Damn, I love that input method and I've really got it down pat.
Ahh... oldies but goodies (well, greats actually). Dmitry! Nice to see you still here too. And I'm off to see what's up on the DGOS blog that I haven't looked at in so many moons... |

| Still use mine every day as well. I have yet to find a device with a calendar even remotely like Dtbk6 that I can carry in my pocket and use at a moments notice. I have things thrown at me to do a lot in my job, and without it I could never keep track of everything. I've tried paper and it just never worked for me.
In the evening, I often use it to play a game. The battery has taken a beating, but it's still my first TX bought in December '05.

| I'm still running 2 units (flashable and not) mostly for games. Indeed they are great units. It's all so sad. I saw where Palm may be headed down the drain, if they haven't already been flushed away. Apparently my Treo Pro will be my last Palm in a very long series of Palms. |

| My Tx stable plays a key role in my life - helping me to stay organized, and acting as a reliable, readily searchable external memory resource. The memory aspect is particularly important as my brain 'rebooted' back in '05, and my memory skills took a step down. I thus now have 3 Tx units - the latest from Chris Short on ebay with the Dmitry upgrade. I still can't believe that Palm abandoned their loyal customers. Palm users have gone from being state-of-art (back when the Garnet bug bit me) to being old-fashioned archaic technoids devoted to an outdated technology. Life is ever so interesting...... . Is having 3 Tx units in the stable enough? |

| Everyday! I use mine everyday, mostly for calendar and contacts. As a teacher, the flexibility is unparalleled. I use documents to go for on-the-go projects, palm PDF for professional documents, Versamail, Opera mini and Google maps. It syncs beautifully with Groupwise and Outlook (work and home). Finally, I use Stop3Watch when coaching track and field, Mocha VNC, and PebblesPC applications.
It is a fantastic device, rarely crashes and has better battery life than an iPhone will ever have!

| Thanks for all the feedback, everyone, and from all over the world. I'm going to stick with this Palm TX for at least the rest of the year, just to learn what everyone has been raving about for so long. I don't know what I'll do after that. It may sound silly, but I'm reading the history of Palm: Piloting Palm, by Butter and Pogue. Of course, the book is 8 years old, but is a fascinating piece of tech history.
And, I'm also reading the Palm manual, "How to Do Everything with your Palm Powered Device, by Johnson and Broda.
One thing that intrigues me, now that I have it working, is the compact, external keyboard. The keyboard and the TX together weigh only 12 ounces, and it's really a completely functional combo for word document composition. There is nothing else with a functional keyboard that I can put in my pocket, take anywhere, and do some serious writing. |
